It's now settling slightly on certain serfaces now in Halesowen, dewpoint slam dunked below 0C, and the front is slowing (Or at least I think it is. Looks like it's moving about as west now as north...)

Its even starting to turn sleety here.

See I did say last night that it won't be until the evening that our fun and games begin.

I expect many more snow reports over the coming hrs.

P.S When you get a min check the ECM. A dangerous cold spell looms if thats right!

Oakham near leicester (just east) has reports of heavy snow on the Meto website under recent and latest (???) anyone near there to verify that? that would make the snow line really far east!

Not been to work today, else I could tell you first hand!

Just rain in Melton though 8 mile North of Oakham.

Well watched the 18.59 ITN and Sky News. The former appearing to have either data or presenter from METO.

Both however still go for snow in mid wales, north and north west midlands, with 5-10cm.

Funny thing is, with the forecast changing throughout the day, we seem to be back to the original forecast - Snow falling late evening and early morning (with some potential still for tomorrow day time).

Yep, sticking with relative ease now, easier than I thought it would. But as I said, the ground temp must have been very cold. Paths and the roads are starting to get a very slight covering and the snow is still heavy. This won't last that long though judging by Radar.

Where abouts from N B'Ham are you from if you dont mind me asking and whats your altitude. Your conditions sound similar to minelaugh.gif

Sleet with a rain mix...

I think altitude is making all the difference here. Even just 50-60m or so can be the difference between sleety rain like you have and settling snow like here.

still snowing and settling here, giving a nice covering but would need it to continue for quite some time for anything decent

I think this has been an altitude event and the alarm bells were ringing when temps had risen so much this morning ahead of the PPN. A super call - from last nights 12z onwards - from the GFS both in terms of temps and northward position of the PPN.

1.9C and more sleet here ! <_<

Hi Ian.

Posted on another thread about this, but do you know where you can get 850hpa actual readings? You see, all 3 GFS Op runs today have been -5oC for Derbyshire all day, whilst all other members go for around -2 to -3oC.

The former would have probably given better conditions for the ppn to be snow, however, it looks like the T2m temps might be roughly the same.

Plenty of snow showers, max temps of -5C, min temps below -10C.

This could be just the beginning.

Could we be staring down the barrel of the winter we have been longing for?

Nick - as the winter goes by you'll start understanding my pessimism - you could have 3 or 4 inches and amazingly i'd have nothing. Its so god damn frustrating.

Full moderate snow here now, can't see it amounting to anything....another p**s take for our area, front looks as if it will pass to the north of here in a little over an hour. <_<
