Its warmed up a fair bit here in the last hour or so. :wallbash:

All morning it has been clear blue skies with frost and the sprinkling of snow we got on new years eve, now its clouded over and the ice and snow has all but melted!! Currently sitting @ 3.0c with a DP of 0c.

I can't see us getting anything tonight either looking at the direction of the band currently over the NE.

Matt. :whistling:

The 2nd Trough still is not resolved on the Models at the moment so it is all up in the air still.

GFS & NAE Are keen to keep the precip going sliding it ESE Into the early hours whereas ECMWF Kills the Precip Stone Dead over the East Midlands.

What follows this after a brief Ridge of High Pressure for Monday is still looking good with a finger of very cold air and uppers extending SW From Sweden/Norway and it is this that should bring the major snow to the Uk from Tuesday to Friday, after this if the High moves into Scandinavia at the end of the Week then a more Potent Easterly flow will continue to cold spell with further significant snow to the East/East Anglia and All of the South East for Next weekend, this will also bring places further South and West into the equation for settling snow.

Just taken the dog for a walk and the clouds over Peterborough are ink-black. Not sure whether it has snowed up there or whether it was rain. Haven't had any more snow/rain since this morning. It's been passing to the north. If the line of showers running through Wales towards Birmingham makes it here, it could be interesting as the temp is dropping

We need to keep an eye on whats happening in the North of England. If it can mantain is intensity as it pushes south, Im sure we would get a few cms out of it.

Just sleet and bits of exceedingly wet snow at times here in Ipswich, think we will have to wait till later on before we get any snow, just a touch too warm at the moment, I think once the winds turn more northerly/easterly the fun will beging :whistling:

I agree we would see a decent covering if it kept its intensity. Unfortunately it has a long way travel south without any added moisture/energy from the sea. The high ground over northern England will also squeeze the air dry. Not often we can say it, but in effect, we in the south are on the Lee side.

False dawn here... the large flakes were soon replaced by sleet unfortunately. It'll be interesting to see how things pan out later tonight especially as Paul mentioned the placement of the second trough is still unsolved amongst the models.

nice and blue in Leighton buzzard but i expect the temps to drop rather quick in the night and if that cloud moves further south we could be in for a bit more of a dusting but i sill think that low to the south is keeping it away for us for the mo

Western side of the PPN falling more as sleet and rain. Sleet falling here, for me, attention now at the North East, and how this band tracks south

A local river here is frozen, just saw a dog fall on it, it cracked and his owners had to try and grab him, they smashed the ice and eventually pulled him in. It was terrible to see though!

This current band is falling as snow on the NEern flank, its the SWern flank with some milder temperatures associated with it - temp is up to 4c here now just to the SW of it, with -1c DP

Two men were drowned in Norfolk trying to rescue their gun dog from a frozen lake the other week… the dog was fine and found its own way out (most dogs have a waterproof layer of fur next to their skin).

Dogs are far better equipped to withstand immersion in freezing cold water than we are, so never wade in to rescue your dog, however hard hearted it sounds, the dog will be fine unless it's particularly unlucky — you won't be, cold water's a killer.
