oh dear, temp on way up here and more worrying - the dewpoint has risen to a heady -1.5, wouldn't it be mad if it arrived as rain?

Truth is I really don't know, the picture will be clearer in an hour or so.. we could get 5cm.. or we could get 25cm.. just have to see what happens

Yeh but the flow is coming up from a cold france , whereas those areas have the thames estuary in the way :(

I guess the warm Channel pales into insignificance compared to the Thames Estuary. Neil.

For all in the London area especially that are worried because they haven't had much, don't worry, just look here:

http://www.raintoday.co.uk/

The current band of PPN is quite thin, but you can see that near the Brighton it is thickening to the east so as it moves north we will be in the firing line. I'd guess it will hit us by about 9pm in SW London

Looks like I may get some of that here too? However, is it weakening or steady as it moves inland?

Tough call mate, we are probably on thr western edge of the heavier part of the first band BUT our temps will very much be marginal IMO...then second band tomorrow looks better for snowfall chances. As long as we stay right side of marginal I'd imagine 4-6cms probably is the call I'd make...but as per normal big uncertainties...

Looking ahead to Thurs / Fri's potential snowfall in EA/SE, do you think there will be any marginality issues on those days? Looks like there might be a better flow?

Thanks

Neil, to be fair it was forecast. It was on the graphics even last night, a separate band moving north. I posted this morning about a squall like feature moving north this evening, into the Thames Estuary by midnight.

we certainly don't - it wouldn't be the first time - waited up til 1.30am in december just to see the snow turn to rain as it got here, although I am much more hopeful this time. It'll be Ok, really, it will :(
