Could be major Snow,as SK is picking out.

Also another worry is salt doesnt really work well in very low temp's,so even IF the road's are gritted they are still deadly.

Salt might become a major problem if this carries on..

There is a National problem evolving .

Winter folk's is here for quite a while yet!!

The latest precipitation charts based on the 00z GFS shows snow over our region from Saturday until Wednesday - surely that can't be right, can it?!cold.gif

Be interesting if Ian's prepared to delve a few days into future this eve when he posts an update.

yes good to see Ian's point and view or Nick.F when he update's his blog through out the week.

my lowest temp we had here was around -21 in Cheltenham 1981...

water froze instantly..

I reckon in the valley which reached -24 on the 18th December might get beaten this week.

I think 1963 cold spell went on for a few month's...but not sure as I wasn't around then.

So a long way off 63 at present.

But interesting weather with some of the Coastal Sea freezing in places...

2012 as started  early

Morning, not read the threads yets...or looked out the window.

Just heard Ians forecast on the radio.

He said fine and dry today, the chance of some light flurries into Bath later.

Tomorrow dry and fine...with the chance of a covering of snow (1 cm or so) in the evening.

Chance of more snow the weekend.

No let up in the cold for 10 - 15 days.

Thanks for that!

Will we get into negative double figures by the end of the night?...

The morning rush-hour could be "interesting"...

Hi Schmac, it got down to -7.8 here last night, I'm in the newtown area so could have been a touch colder on the outskirts.

I think temps got up to +2 yesterday in places.

Evening though its going to be sunny today i have a feeling it wont get above freezing.

There was a slight thaw yesterday....

it would be amazing if the sun was out today and the temps stayed below 0.

Keep looking at the roofs and gutters..no dripping yet!

Not sure I trust my thermometer! Probably something to do with the location, because it says -5.1 here at the moment with a min of -5.8 which seems balmy compared to -11 at Staverton. I can compare my minima night by night, but may refer to the official stations for proper readings.

A couple more pictures for you before I retire to my Maths books:

Morning rockhopper.

Well, WeatherBug (on my BlackBerry) said it was -10 about an hour ago (not sure how accurate that is though) and someone else just down the road said it got to -10 too (but not sure where they got their info from). That's for the Paxcroft Mead area.

Solid ice on the roads around here. Doesn't look like many people are venturing out to work!
