I'd of met him up the top of the hill, had my backpack ready to go! Oh well.

I've never met a bad Tesco delivery driver, even when down in Cornwall trying to find this campsite right down on the beach one stopped and asked if he could help. Awesome people! (and no, I don't work for or own shares in Tesco) laugh.gif

I work for Tesco's laugh.gif , but only on checkouts. I do see the drivers come in at the end of their shifts around 10pm looking so tired but at least the vans are warm! They are trying around here and at least the buses are going again.

Then you must be an awesome person to! laugh.gif

I don't envy them when its pouring with rain, or icy like now!

BBC a bit better with snow on Saturday making its way over here to, didn't go up to Sunday... but did drop a few hints! haha

Interesting temperature variations whilst out and about today. -6.3C at 08.30 in Chapmanslade but down the hill a mile away it fell to -15C ! Real cold pools of air in low areas. I even took a photo of the car dash as I didn't know the display went that low ! (-15C today and +37C in France last summer is quite a range for a car to work in)

And before anybody says - my car is usually pretty much the same as my weather station at home so I do believe it.

temp 'only' got down to -8.1C here, with clear skies and snow cover. i think the breeze stopped the temps from going down because when it did become calm at around 8am, the temp dropped.

Beautiful day here in Trowbridge!... Plenty of "Sunny sunshine"

If only every winter could be like this...

WeatherBug going for a current temperture in Trowbridge of -1.7°c at 14:00, so still pretty cold here!

Road on the estate is link an ice-rink!... If only I had my own skates!...

temp -1.2c according to dunkeswell.A very, very slight thaw in our back garden.

However heard that overnight temps could be lower than last nights in rural areas and still -7c around towns.

I live in London now but grew up in Torquay and was stunned to see the temperature for the town being reported at 9am today as -11C! Is that right? Amazing really, certainly don't remember that sort of thing when I was living there.

Hi Kris,

Thanks for the detailed explanation of the fax chart - excellent post. Just a quick question, I presume that you can tell that the front will be "stationary" due to the fact that it is parallel to the isobars? Or are there other pointers?

(just trying to get my head around interpreting those fax charts)

Also what does the curl at the western end of the front (warm?) mean and what would that signify in terms of weather?

Cheers.

Hi KQ,

Ok well just to start with to clear things up for anybody else that may be struggling, the fronts depicted on that FAX chart without the semi-circles or triangles filled in signify's the upper nature of the warm/cold front

The stationary nature of the front is indicated by the front heading in two directions - if you notice the warm front is facing northwards, and the cold front facing southwards :D

The difference between the warm and cold fronts well really with upper fronts not too much, the only thing I would guess at would be that the warm front would indicate slightly heavier precipitation due to its nature (because its an upper front its forced over the cold air already established in the lower troposphere between 850 and 1000mB), as it is forced over the top it rises, cools and condenses into precipitating clouds)

Hope this helps and if theres any further questions i'll do my best to answer them

Kind Regards

SK

He is normally very good on forecasts, the snow was widespread.

Anywhere South of Manchester really.

Snow coming up from the continent.

Ahhh ;)

Tbh, looking at the GFS ( NAE doesnt go that far? )

It looks like a small event.

Maybe 4mm over 48 hrs.

Would be nice to see some kind of streamer or convective PPN.

We will evidently know more closer to the time.

The fronts location is more than likely also gonna change.

On Saturday ill probably sit down and work through all the charts to make my own mind up on how badly effected we will get.

Considering yesterday we had that unexpected streamer move from the east, That started VERY light and in some places got quite heavy. So with this in mind anything could happen to "these" fronts albeit upper.
