How long is this cold spell suposed to last in the South? Only reason i ask is because some sites have just updated and give us temps of 9-10c by wednesday next week and S or SW winds?? - Some have said its going to continue for another fortnight but having seen the latest forecasts its only going to last until early next week??

I think the sites that say high temps next week auto update based on the GFS.

The GFS is looking like its wrong on a few frames atm.

I suspect thats automatic updates from the GFS 12z.

ALL news channels saying at least the end of next week, probably longer.

Ah thought so! - Seemed a bit strange! - Thanks

(Just checked and yes its the GFS 12z!)

No thaw today on areas away from main roads - Been a nice sunny winters day and to have lying snow on the ground at the same time makes it a whole lot nicer! - Fingers crossed for Sunday but won't get my hopes up until Saturday night after Tuesdays Forecast going wrong for us!

I think weather forecasters and newreaders put kiss of death on the cold spell when they start saying stuff like " cold spell to last till the end of the month" on the tv .Ok so it might but always seems like the following week everything changes and it gets a little warme.I dont think it ll get warmer anytime soon another week at least. After that who knows but i do think we shall see a lot more snow yet.I also think there will be a lot of snow just before it turns warmer like it usually do.Whenever it does turn warmer

.Then it ll prob be wet n windy for weeks on end then and that ll be winter over gees im so negative tonight lol

Yep thats spot on. Metcheck, NetWeather and i suspect TWO's 7 day and beyond forecasts are based wholly on GFS output

Down to -3°c in Trowbridge @ 17:56, (according to WeatherBug).

Roads (and some footpaths) on the estate are still like ice-rinks!... Tomorrow morning could be interesting :cray:

I wish Ian was here,I would ask him about this quote from the Independant.

Is this taken out of context from the Met Office..

http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/home-news/another-two-weeks-of-the-big-freeze-still-to-come-1860134.html

The bit about The Met Office Spokesman..

Had a good afternoon sledging on Cleeve Hill with a friend. Beautiful up there, white as far as the eye can see.

-6.3 now.

Dropping like something that drops fast.

Girlfriend has broken one of her car wheels as her car slid on the ice.

Someone behind her was coming right up her ass and flashing their lights..

Just goes to show that a minor lapse in concentration throws it all.

If i find who was flashing the light , they will pay.

If anyone flashes me i just slowdown more.

But evidently she panic'd as they were so close on the ice.

People like that need to be shot on weather like this. Keep your damn distance and dont go flashing lights just because someone is going slow on the ice.

If i had their number plate it would be posted all over the internet by now and sent to the police.

damn idiots.

Poor girl, I can sympathise. I was crawling down the hill today in low gear as I lie at the bottom of a cul de sac. Cars parked left and right of me and reduced to a narrow channel. Car ran across me , instinctively braked missed the moggie and the nearest car by the cats whisker. The driver of the car that freaked her probably had less IQ than that cat.

Point's West is on in a moment,I think it might Richard Angwin for the Weather.

Well for someone who is usually reluctant to use the 'S' word, he's been going into ramp mode over the last few days. Surely that can only be a good sign as we have seen in round one of the snow .

A high of -1.6C after a low of -9.6C last night. Already -4.7C here to bound to beat last night's figure.

BBC national weather at 6:30 didn't even show Sunday - but a hint of what might be coming in the Saturday forecast.

Lets hope Richard goes further.

By the way Phillip Avery did show the sunday chart on BBC N24 at 6pm, and it showed exactly the same as Sky News Weather - snow from roughly lincs across to birmingham southwards

Sky did go to monday earlier and showed the snow still lying this time in a line from the home counties up to north wales
