UK Outlook for Saturday 15 Dec 2012 to Saturday 29 Dec 2012:

Temperatures by both day and night are most likely to be below average during this period, with a greater incidence of overnight frost and, at times, fog or freezing fog. The signal for rain and snowfall amounts during this period shows a high degree of uncertainty, however, on balance, slightly drier conditions compared to average are favoured for most of the UK. Even though there is a drier-than-average signal for much of the UK, where precipitation does occur, there is a greater chance that it will fall as snow compared to normal.

And there was some moaning yesterday when they mentioned winds from a more n-w source. What a difference 24 hours make and no mention of the wind source which indicates their not to sure either. Keep the faith lads & lasses !

UK Outlook for Saturday 22 Dec 2012 to Saturday 5 Jan 2013:

There is a great deal of uncertainty in the forecast, but there are indications of more unsettled weather during this period. Temperatures will generally be a little below average for the time of year, although they may recover to nearer normal by the New Year. The signal for rain and snowfall amounts and distribution shows a high degree of uncertainty. On balance, it seems most likely that many areas will receive average amounts of rain. With temperatures generally below average, this would suggest that there is a increased chance of snow.

Sounds like they gone with the ECM32 scenario, not a great update really but expected

Yep, well they do have a high regard of it. Still think its not a bad update, considering where we were last year and the S word is mentioned at the end, so still very good chance that snowfall's will continue to come around. :) ( Perhaps i'm being a little bit over optimistic)

I don't think ECM32 is that bad anyway, at least keeps the general cold theme going through to the 23rd which comes a week or so after the period the Models are currently wavering over. Can't how anyone can really disappointed with that unless of course they're striving for perfection.

Wonder when they are going to think about changing this?

Think it stayed the same for around a fortnight now.

And, just because the numerical models keep amending their respective outputs, doesn't necessarily mean that the actual weather will do likewise...It'd be a bit daft if the MetO issued a revised forecast every six hours!

This is why I think it would make far more sense if they issued these weekly instead.

I'm almost certain that we are the only people that analyse every single word of these forecasts anyway, and we're usually reading between the lines for reassurance of cold weather. We'd all go mad if they were weekly :-p

That's the sort of change I was expecting. Sounds like we are entering a period of cyclonic westerlies, veering south & north at times fluctuating temperatures above & below average at times.
