i think if they open airports then only the foolish will fly.

i think people would be very frightened to fly although some will out of desperation.

it will be tragic to risk peoples lives for money but greed brings danger.

Possibly but there wil lbe some people who actually are running out of money now, esp if they didn't have much left over anyway from the holiday, therefore you'd be surprised how many would take the punt I reckon...

I'm worried that what will happen is the tests come back ok for central Europe, the companies will then ask for the ban to be lifted given the skies are ok, then when the next round comes along the line "well the model simulation was wrong last time" will no doubt be uttered from someone and we'll end up having a huge disaster by Tuesday...

Although i understand Airlines are losing alot of money fast it seems some are getting desperate now and trying anything to get flying again, despite conditions set to get even worse shortly. I too fear that a disaster could loom if the air traffic control people give in letting the Airlines money get ahead of safety. :nonono:

Mondy's doing a great job-I have a question,I wonder if the authorities are checking to see if air pollution has dropped in the last 4 days and if so by how much,we probably will not be told but I have never seen any figures as to how much planes contribute.

i was wondering that myself. i wonder what the carbon footprint of an airliner is and how much it must have reduced these last few days.

i feel sorry for the airlines. its not their fault they cant fly and after all is said and done. many peoples lives will be affected if firms go bust. from pharmaceuticals to fresh food, the amount of cargo flown around is vast. passangers on planes is not the only business in the air.

what i disagree with is the contempt some of these companies are giving to the situation. OK if you doubt the science then send trial flights up. but do so in a controlled way. i.e every hour, at varying levels, etc etc. then true comparisons can be made. after all, if you are going to disagree with the science than its no good making your own rules up just to make the results look better

Let KLM take the lead and make a fool of themselves. They have previous aviation history of the negative side concering volcanic ash. Google KLM 867.

BA test flight is about to take off shortly according to Sky news. I would think they'll have a camera by the runway.

On the subject of resuming flights, my wife is stuck in Romania but I wouldn't want her to fly back until the experts say it's safe. I can't trust the CEO of KLM who can see his share dividend disappearing before his eyes!

edit: It's just taken off, see www.radarvirtuel.com

KLM has been up there, but they've been up during a period where the ash isn't so dense, they may well have been able to somewhat cut the restrictions down further SE into Europe today but that window is now rapidly closing again...

As I said, if they open up airspace, this time tomorrow we'll have a human disaster out of this event as well its as simple as that!

Also some speculation from that site that was linked here earlier that the tremors are a good sign that the magma chamber is re-filling again and pushing towards the surface so another big eruption could occur soon.

euro control hoping 50% will be operational tomorrow because of a window opportunity..

and safety a priority..

Slight upper ridge over Europe right now which as I said has given a slight window, for the UK as a whole that window is going to slam shut in the next 12hrs, central Europe may be able to squeze another 6-9hrs on top of that IMO before the wind flow comes in fairly strongly from the NW and the next thrust of ash.

I dont know if I have understood this correctly..

but euro control saying this is going to be a huge joint effort working closely with each country to get flights up through window opportunities..

like i say my interpretation...

a huge joint effort working with each other..

maybe different flight paths?????my interpretation..
