All we can do is hope for a Scandi High, and some deep cold pools of air forming along with the PV more towards Scandinavia or us.

FI has on times been trying to suggest this, but it's never come off, and to be honest, I can't see that scenario myself.

FI has tried to show some sort of consistency for weeks on end now of this Scandi high forming and it never quite works out.

The Atlantic is really coming alive now, and rain is likely to be the order of the day for the rest of the month, unless something really

amazing happens.

It's just very depressing this weather...are we in earlyautumn or the start of spring? Coz it most definitely isn't winter weather

Been woken by the wind howling, must be gusting 50mph, low centered over ireland atm. Just checked meto and they now have severe gales for my location around 9am with gust to 66mph.

Not to much rain falling, 7.8c

Rough up the irish sea in the next few hours

Certainly windy here, the conservatory roof is creaking like mad, I didn't realise the wind was going to be this bad again, no rain at present, the fields round here are very water logged maybe when the wind dies down we will get the rain?

Top gust so far has been 57.5mph, a rough morning.

Aberdaron in north Wales has recorded a storm force 10 mean speed @ 63mph gust to hurricane force 12 to 84mph!! serious wind strength

Yes, the roaring winds are back with a vengeance. Currently sustained Force 8 (gale) winds at Crosby. At least it takes my mind off the dreadful mildness. :)

Today should be a decent day sunshine-wise, and we may even see a return to frost tonight.

As the back edge on the west wide of the low crosses over cumbria I think there could be some pretty lively gusts from a NW'ly direction as it starts to exit to the north sea.

Indeed, with the low moving northeastwards the winds will change from SW to W and then NW before finally clearing, coming right off the Irish Sea. The peak winds could be yet to come.

Why not a warning instead an advisory? At times the Meto appear very slow to react.

Beats the 11th November storm (peak gust = 69mph), although sustained Force 9 winds lasted for several hours during that event.

Highly doubt it.

Winds will ease around lunch time.

Or begin easing at least.

Lol advisory... when there is storm force winds hitting wales/nw england oh dear, good public service!

This has been quite severe, the potential was there for severe winds, as I did mention over in the thread 'atlantic lows' last night.

i just hope everyone is safe, 80mph wind in high populated areas = very serious consiquences.

By which point the winds will have veered from SW to NW. :)

We may have already peaked, but it's not certain yet.

Usually the strongest winds are from the West aren't they?

Mad gale here this morning. Huge gusts roaring up here all the way from W.Lancs. Had power cuts for the last 3 evenings, but remarkably keeping going at present.

Dry so far today. But had 87.5mm over the last 4days.

You think they would have learned from the poor forecast last Thursday. On the overhead gantries on the M6 they warnings of high winds on Friday. Meanwhile 7/8 HGV's had blown over in Cumbria.

The winds can be very strong from the NW also, the nae model shows a real squeeze in the isobars on the back edge.

I think the winds will have peaked by now, i think a 76mph gust is strong enough at crosby!!

On thursday i recored a gust of 75mph here, there was about 4/5 trees down locally and a few roads were blocked for a while. The M6 was littered with lorries with one catching fire.
