Lashing it down out there, small branches broken and blown onto the road. Must be easily gusting to 60mph now.

I don't remember seeing the severe flash warning on the Meto website for Cumbria when I looked earlier. Flash warning is for heavy rain tonight into tomorrow morning, however it does also mention gale force winds with gusts up to 65mph.

Winds have been horrific here, serveral trees and fence down. Loads of tiles flying off the roof. Is it true when look north were forecasting 90mph winds for tommorow afternoon. Oh and the rivers are on flood watch again lol.

Alright mate, yeah its been far worse than expected lots of incidents in cumbria ongoing. Look north forecasted 90mph? yes on the fells, the mountain forecast on MWIS for the lake district has hurricane force winds on the tops with gusts over 100mph!!

60-70mph lower down likely

was gonna say its only got to 27mph here, so winds aint that bad in Ashton-u-Lyne atm. The 17mm of rain in 6 hours on the other hand has led to some roads having a slight covering and with tameside councils inability to sort the roads out (nothing been done about last winters pot holes never mind this years) it means there are loads of puddles of water everywhere and some drains are overflowing. very intresting nights weather here

wind has all but died right down, and the drizzle has now now stopped too.

Temperature is 10C and feels more like the start of autumn rather than the

final third of winter.

is our climate changing and to what exactly? I seriously wouldn't call Hale, Halton Temperate

by any means. 460MM rain per annum, avg summer temp 26C. Avg winter -5C.

Both these temperatures are completely outside the allowed variance to be considered

temperate. The lack of rain compared to everywhere else in the country too, even compared to

Liverpool is well down.

We aren't exactly arid but then we aren't exactly as wet as the rest of the UK when it comes to

rainfall. Our temps remain pretty static during the summer months, which is absolutely lovely.

Unless we end up with drizzle lol

So again, what climate is the UK and more importantly what's it turning into?

Wind is picking up here, very strong and gusty all of a sudden. Could be gusts around 70mph in exposed places.

Temp 7.9c

Wind is getting nasty here.

Hurricane force 12 can be expected in exposed areas.

Again the 06z has been a good run. It shows Northern Blocking out towards Greenland finally putting the Atlantic to rest and bringing Winter back the UK.

This is all in FI, but there is some trending going on now. I think it is looking likely we will see a return to colder conditions at some point during the month, possibly into March. Who knows. FI is looking good at the moment, not as good as yesterday's 06z though which brought -20C uppers over us. Obviously this was very unlikely to happen anyway, but regarding any type of blocking, FI today is the best for us snow and cold lovers. Some snow with some persistent cold.

This can and will change however so please don't be taking my post as a gospel and start throwing parties. We were always likely to see some more cold before Winter is out, and hopefully, this Winter will not go out quietly. The Atlantic has had its fun, now sod off.

Flash warning for cumbria severe gales 70mph

http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/weather/uk/nw/nw_forecast_warnings.html

Strange its not valid until this evening from 17.30 the winds will have peaked before then and start to decrease not long after the warning becomes valid, anyone can see that looking at the charts.

Do you think its sometimes knee jerk to say climate is changing, on the basis of a couple of cold winters...im not saying it is or isnt but....as a gardener it used to drive me mad seeing people suggesting the planting of exotics on the basis of 'milder winters'....just because we had 20 year of milder winters.....they were always going to come back.....20 years is the blink of an eye.

Just checked the Met O warnings for the North West, in Cumbria the winds peak after 5.30, i.e rush hour and beyond, and the stronger wind for us is supposed to be this evening, not sure if I'm reading it right. Anyhoo it's blowing a hooley here, some branches already fallen, and thats after last nights winds, I'm staying in now, just came down the Mway and it was dodgy driving in the winds as it is now, will be bad later when they increase.

Beeb weather just on, winds 60/70mph in Cumbria, and across Nrthn England. Not sure if he meant sustained winds or gusts?

Had 25mm of rain between 4pm and midnight yesterday, and have already had over 21mm today so far, with plenty more on the way.

post-717-0-79863900-1296836649_thumb.jpg

Nowhere near as bad as that here. Had just 12.6mm since midnight last night.
