here's a few shots from the thundersnow we had about 45 mins ago, played around with the shutter speed in the 1st 2 photos to get a better contrast ratio between the flakes and the background, the last one shows the actual intensity ....

There was about 7cm+ in Buxton last night when i took the kids sledging, the Drive through castleton up winnats pass to get to Buxton was quite strange there was only a few flakes of snow falling in Castleton then as soon as i got to the gates at the gate at the bottom of winnats pass it started snowing lightly and there was a covering of snow on the ground the snow got heavier as i drove up the pass at the top there was quite a few cm of lying snow, i then drove through sparrowpit and then through Dove Holes which had a good covering of Snow it was snowing quite heavily when i got to Buxton which as i say had a good 7cm+covering.

Yes, I noticed the station at Brierlow Bar just to the south of Buxton was reporting 8cm of snow. It was definitely a north western Peak event with all the high ground around Buxton, Flash, Leek and Stoke getting a good snowfall but nothing to the south and east of about Hartington.

Great to see the Cheshire Gap is in FULL Force today! Excellent wind direction throughout today, becoming more favourable for the West Midlands later. Cheshire Gap risk all the way through to tomorrow afternoon too.

If we can keep the Cheshire Gap going tonight, especially at the intensity it is at now, things could be quite wintry acorss a fair part of the Midlands tomorrow morning. Things are a little marginal now but thickness's are excellent.

Just rain showers here thus far and light ones at that, 4c after a low bang of 0.1c, looks possible now we may go the remainder of the month without dipping below freezing unless it falls below tonight!

Edit: Turned to sleet now although its nearly cleared.

The Wrekin is covered in snow though today, not just the top section either.

it was trying its hardest to snow here about 30 mins ago. you could look up and see all the flakes in the sky but only the very biggest made it to the ground. looking at the radar, it looks like the streamer will be a little more favourable for those further east today, struggled yesterday to catch any precipitation

Upper Winds should veer more NNW'ly this afternoon and overnight which will probably mean a fairly dry slot for the East Midlands while the Cheshire Gap, if it continues to flow may give a good few showers to the West Midlands. How far they get inland overnight may be an issue though. Sometimes they go far, sometimes they dont. Today they seem to be going a good distance though.

Tomorrow morning, the situation looks similar before the upper winds driving the showers becoming more Westerly which may give the East Midlands a final shot at some snow showers before the milder weather arrives.

 Brilliant, I need those tissues and lemsip right now, my voice has almost completely gone because of the man flu :help:

It's absolutely typical, the showers that have been peppering Cheshire all morning...One has finally reached here at the warmest point of the day and it fell as moderate rain  So they fizzled out before reaching here early this morning when the temp was 0c and dew of -1.8c but it has no problem getting here when the temp is too high for snow.

I think Leicester got cursed by someone at the end of the 90's so that it would hardly snow here and when it does it won't be near as much as somewhere 30 miles away.

Im sure you know not just to follow the BBC. I dont think they had anywhere near the shower coverage on there as we have now. Probably because most models cant pick up such a feature. Thickness's are great until tomorrow morning with the 528dam line for reference leaving by around lunchtime.

Not seen one flake in 3 days? Lucky. I haven't seen a flake for about 11 months.
