Evening all. I don't often post as I'm still learning the ropes so to speak. I'm in York and it seems very touch and go, as does my workplace in Leeds. Guess its just now casting?

I'm struggling to see how this snow is going to turn to rain with the 0C isotherm below 100m through out. For west yorkshire anyways...

0degisotherm.png

I think a lot will depend on how heavy the precipitation is on the back side of the front, if it's light drizzly shizzle dragging it's heels we could get a little rain, but wouldn't expect much snow melt from it.

Although city's might just be too mild for most of the snow to accumulate.

I expect it to be snow from start to finish across the whole of Yorkshire/Lincolnshire.

Snowfall accumulation of 10-15cm widespread, 15-20cm over Pennines/North York moors.

PPN amounts 14/15mm in west, 11/13 mm in east. Ignore gap, always shown in frontal scenarios.

Dew points -1/-2

0.c Isotherm down to sea level

12020418_2_0312.gif

PPN type- snow throughout

NMM goes for snow

Good forecast, but 10-15cm widely I'm not so sure about. I think you will get 8-15cm and linconshire/parts of east yorkshire also. But places like headingly/bridlington/western parts of south yorkshire will probably get a spell of snow turning to rain/sleet.

Temp plummeting tonight after a crackin day. -1.6C already. It's looking like we could do quite well out of tomorrows event which makes a nice change!

I can't figure out which MO warning we're in though! The line seems to go straight through us! The NW forecast has the back end turning to sleet but the other forecasts and PPN maps look pretty good to me.

Any views?

So i'm very pleased with the forecast this evening at least 6 hours of continuous snow fall for many parts of Yorkshire, was hoping for 10-12 hours but will make do with 6 lol :)

If any more experienced users would like to make me happy then please delve in and let me know!

Looking forward to tomorrow!!!!!!

One other thing I have noticed tonight which was a bit weird, the council came up our close spreading salt!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

1. they have to much on the shelf after this years mild winter or

A few snow grains coming down at the moment.

Just checked the radar and the lightest of precipitation showing up.

Q. Do I stay in the city tomorrow afternoon and watch the rugby and walk home because the snow is so bad the buses can't get up to Pudsey or get back and enjoy the fun from my house?

I don't think travel around the city should be too bad, I'd expect any lying snow there to be quite slushy and easily melted by grit on the roads. But nearer your house could be quite a few cm :)

Leeds center isn't that bad for snow, compared to other larger cities- Manchester, Birmingham, Newcastle etc Leeds does pretty darn well. We only don't realize because of our proximity to the pennines. Bradford and Sheffield center are probably snowier though.

I bet you will be hard pushed to find pictures like that in leeds city centre before 2009 though :p for it to stick like that in the centre, every factor has to be perfect.
