That's looking nice jp

Totally agree archiesmummy seems to be alot of cries for winters over

Maybe it is maybe it isn't only time will tell but with charts like that around how can you ignore them. I think that if the models are still showing colder conditions come fri/sat then we can start looking at another possible cold spell

Here's hoping

I hope this isn't to much of a stupid question but with this current cold spell over for now are we still at risk from atlantic wind storms like we had at the start of winter or are they only associated with that part of the year??

I think statistically the 'best' time for windstorms is December and January, although the risk of a major blow can extend two or three months either side ( actually the risk never entirely disappears ) - obviously October '87 was outside this peak period. There was a major windstorm in mid March 1947, after the snowy winter. I also remember a very strong blow on 24th March 1986 - it was my mate's 18th birthday. Definitely not too late yet.

I know I haven't posted loads as I've not been here very long but I will be sad when/if the regional thread closes. I don't know where I'll post after that to be honest? Regional threads seem to be the most relaxed in terms of what you can post. I think I'll get told off if I post anywhere else lol

Tilly, if you like storms then get yourself into the convective thread in summer (or just whenever there's some good convective potential really!) on good days it can be quite busy in there and is as fun as the regional threads in my opinion :)

Of course winter is not over yet, hopefully we'll see some action before long or Coast is going to have to clear this thread of tumbleweed

You know I thought about that after I posted haha. And the USA Storm Chase threads. I can go in there eek exciting! Hopefully we have a good year for storms this year. We only had one worth talking about last year. Fingers crossed :D

Thats very true, Winter is not quite done yet. I've seen snow in April, never in June though, that would be WEIRD! x

All snow melted here after yesterdays light rain, apart from the piles that are still quite big.

I'm not sure why people keep saying winter is over. It's not exactly unusual to snow in March or even April.

Agreed, but for another prolonged period of snow cover, time is running short.

To be honest, if we had a foot of snow in March, which caused all sorts of traffic chaos, before melting in a couple of days, I'm ambiguous as to whether I'd want to see it.

Yes Coast, I don't usually deal in 'gut feeling' but you know, I have a good feeling about this summer bringing some electricity to us southerners.

Just don't tell jane Louise!! She'll get jelous

Well if previous years are anything to go by, the North will hog the storms again.

Just you wait until storm season when everybody reminices about the SE all nighter storms of old.

Hmmm no weather expert (enthusiastic follower, no real knowledge, just guesswork and hunches!) I'd say anything white will miss us in the SE but it may get colder than the current thaw again. Like you, I wouldn't rule out more snow before the Summer really sets in, as this album of photos I took from April 2008 can show:

http://forum.netweather.tv/gallery/album/510-snow-in-eastbourne-april-2008/

After April though I'm really getting into outdoor mode and looking for storms. Can't beat being out amongst it with the crackle of electricity all around you, somewhere on Beachy Head looking out to sea!!!

Bring it on, 2012 storm season! :clapping:

Yep can say the thaw has definitely arrived, instead of a nice white garden I now have a muddy mess which the dogs seem to revel in bringing inside. I can't see us getting a big freeze like we have had for the past couple of weeks. Over a week of lying snow is pretty impressive in my eyes. Still wouldn't rule out some more short snaps of cold, fingers crossed!

http://www.netweathe...;type=ens;sess=

from the 24th onwards there are some colder ensembles showing

warmish and fairly dry to the19th

warmish again from the 21st to 25th

not a lot of precipitation on the london ensembles

that to me does not strike me as atlantic breaking through

there have beens hints of another block to the east

heading towards us.

we all know how well the models coped with the last one.

my opinion for what its worth

look east from around the 25th of this month

sting in tail end of the month??

for example

Once upon a time, in a land far far away, lived an Ice Queen who gave out cold weather and snow to lucky people in the South East of her extensive domain. Some years, when she was feeling particularly benevolent, she spread white joy for months on end and gave countless thousands days of no school, no work and lots of sledging and snowman-making. Other years, for no apparent reason, she was displeased and the land to her South East were barren and snowless - nobody knew why she was such a miserable baggage on those occasions and everybody was sad. She teased the good folk of 'Southeasternshire' with pictures and charts of her potential gifts, for many days into the future, showing what she might bring if they were all good and paid their taxes.

Can you see the lovely picture she showed them boys and girls????

A good analysis. The fact that the Atlantic is not showing an obvious breakthrough can only mean it's either deferred or else a continental flow will re-establish, in my opinion.

Time is running short though for another 'freeze'

Actually, a couple of days next week look Spring like to me, in our part of the World. I'll enjoy those in the meantime. :D

Hi i'm Dee-Dee

I have just joined, i Know i have left it a bit late re:- regional disscusions.I have been following the weather over the past few months. I am no expert but am trying to learn. I sometimes pop into the model output disscusions but sometimes it well and truly goes over my head. I hope to make new weather friends and continue to learn when the forum starts up again later this year. Hope to hear from you Dee Dee

Hi i'm Dee-Dee

Morning Dee-Dee and welcome to the wonderful, weird and wacky world of Netweather!

You may not have left it too late as there are still at least a few weeks where something special may happen. In any event, we're not a one season forum and there will be plenty of rain, wind, sunshine and storms to discuss all year 'round.

Regionals may not be open for the full 12 months, but come and join us in any of the hundreds of other specialist areas and niches and if you get stuck or don't know what the hell people are talking about (mostly drivel from me! :D ) then please feel free to ask someone.

Now get the kettle on and pull up a chair - it must be time for a tea break? a050.gif
