Freezing fog out on Risby Top tonight, visibility down to 5-8m. As bad as I've seen it around Scunny for a few years.

Current temperature for scunny is -6.7 with a dew point of -7.2.

0140 weather view still going with snow reaching east and staying through Saturday. Did not show further than that.

-8.1 degrees dew point if -8.8!!!!!

It's been a ccccccold night shift

Is anyone able to post up the charts or any details of the snow event that took place in 2010. Would be interesting to look at them and see what created rat epic snow event for our region.

There were flying toys and dummies in the winter model thread after the pub run last night, but just had a quick look and the few posts this morning

are much more optimistic.

Fingers crossed things stay on track today and we all have a snowfest weekend.

Wrap up warm peeps, its bloody freezing out there.cold.gif

Bbc and met still sticking to their prediction. Bed time for now after an amazingly cold night shift with some extreme freezing fog.

Hoping to wake up to amazing weather warning for this region.

Just had a look at the model thread and a lot of murmuring about the front that was expected over the UK has moved west meaning Ireland is in the firing line now. Much as I would love 25cms of snow, it looks as though we may not end up with as much here on the mainland as predicted. *sigh*

ECM, UKMO, GEM look alright for this region. GFS, NAE, NMM look pretty awful. I'd wait until the 18z, or maybe the 00z tomorrow, and then we can see what the models are saying. No way am I going to get suckered by another 06z GFS run.

Well this was issued by the Met Office for our region only a couple of hours ago;

Headline:

Dry but very cold today. Snow expected Friday.

Today:

Freezing fog will be slow to clear in places. Dry with some cloud breaks expected to develop giving a few sunny spells. However, it will remain very cold with temperatures remaining below freezing throughout the day. Maximum Temperature -1 °C.

Tonight:

Dry with some clear periods in the east and rather more cloud in the west. Bitterly cold southeasterly winds increasing through the night. Minimum Temperature -5 °C.

Friday:

Mainly dry with some sunny spells initially, though some snow showers likely in the east. Snow becoming widespread during the afternoon and evening with a brisk, bitterly cold southeasterly wind. Maximum Temperature 0 °C.

Outlook for Saturday to Monday:

Very cold with an ice risk throughout. Windy with further snow likely Saturday. Winds ease Sunday, mainly dry but rather cloudy and misty. Windy again Monday with more snow possible.

Issued at: 0400 on Thu 17 Jan 2013

So hardly anything to get down about! As mentioned above, Lisa Gallagher also mentioned that 'there will be significant falls of snow in places so stay tuned' good.gif

-7.2 at the moment. Obviously colder the further east you go.

Amazing at -9 that i'm worried about marginality on the coast over the weekend! How fast things can change!

Hiya,

Well I hope my digi-thermometer is accurate !

I do see though that at very nearby Leconfield the MO had -10.5 C

To be honest in these sort of situations with cold deeply set suprises do pop up, whether that be 2mor or next wk i think we'll all have a piece of the action.

It's -5.6C after a low of -6.6C, sun is shining but not for long, more cloud encroaching. More freezing fog overnight has left another coating of rime and it is truly magnificent out there this morning.
