Too early to be sure yet but it does look like winters going out with a chilly whimper.

I haven't enjoyed winter here much this year, far too many chilly, wet and windy days but only two real days of snow and both were snow to rain events.

Roll on spring, it's purely anecdotal but we seem to get the best weather of the year in spring now rather than summer.

I just hope it does'nt end up an East coast few light showers toppler setup but have always maintained there is just as much chance of that as it being too West based.

It looks like your concerns were well founded on this, as I said personally I was never going to duped again by the models after their previous form this winter, one day they'll be time where we'll see good looking synoptics actually verify again ala 2010 i'm sure but I think it's fair to say that it's not going to be within the next 9 months at the very least, I just hope that we won't be waiting too long. I mean come this December it'll be 3 years on from our last noteworthy cold spell....

Just got back home after a few hours out walking and what a good walking day it has been.

Certainly cold and with snow flurries on and off throughout the afternoon but quite solid from frost underfoot and a lot drier than it was a couple of weeks ago.

Still a fair bit of snow lying in gullies and drifts behind the walls although much of it is more like ice now than soft snow due to the length of time it has been there.

Looking to be a decent few days across the region, certainly if dry is your thing.

Still on the cold side although probably not as bitter as over previous days but in any sunshine it should feel ok.

At least ground conditions for the farmers should ease the longer the dry spell continues.

In conclusion, not ideal if you want the extremes of snow or warm spring sunshine but usable all the same and for a change, our region looks best for the conditions available, certainly those in England.

This will be the 11th day in a row without any rain preety Good and probably now out lengthiest dry spell since last march. The outlook is very dry so we should easily see over a fortnight with no rain. Feb often is a dry month esp in the nw particularly the second half, i just hope that we dont use up our quota of dry weather for the year by may as has been the case for the last few years.

Take a look at this: http://www.weatheron...ad&DAY=20130224

Going to be a drought!! Not looking good. Not my type of weather. Some snow for mid March though, after that warming up.

Im guessing this is be it for the Cool Season (Winter). Now Roll on to the Wet Season (Summer).

Interesting reading, i was in Salford, right next door to MCC in the 09/10 winter, as good as it was, it was certainly top 10 for me (i have lived in a number of locations), probably top 5, i am suprised it is second in Manchester, just shows you how poor the cities and more Western parts of the North West are for snow, alot of people in the South assume everywhere up North is better for snow, The South East can be far better than the North West, Central London is a big struggle in poorer zonal winters granted, but i bet the more favourable parts of Kent regularly come out better than some parts of the North West although i admit even in the poorer winters, my current location still always seems to produce at least one moderate or heavy fall per year.

Technically in the medium / LR it will end up being a West based -NAO as the Northern Lattitude high / Southern Lattitude trough will be further West than Iceland / Azores respectively, however, if the initial plunge of cold air would have been further West as progged by the ECM last friday, we really would have been in business.

Not often you can day cumbria looks like boeing the sunniest and warmest part of the country, but it will be the case tomorrow. We really are being blessed with out own microclimate it seems at present, perfectly positioned under the high, meaning clear skies and no Wind, it is glorious weather, oh why cant we see such conditions in summer.

After the springlike conditions of the last couple of days I, for one certainly hope we have seen the back of this winter.

We still have snow visible in patches on the moors around here and that has been the case for about seven weeks now so it's time to look forward to what will hopefully be a spring and summer of proper seasonal weather. Not after a 1976 or 2006 but certainly don't want a 2007 or 2012 either.

Something approaching summer conditions will do.
