Remember that heavy line you mention started off rather meekly before it crossed the Irish Sea.

Yeah it will pick up again once it hits land, but its also seemed to come a bit more disorganised and messy on the sat images. Could be the sign its dying already, but the Irish sea will give it some umph, just does indicate it wont last that long over England.

Well Huddo and bbc have snow showers for us tonight (could be quite heavy two.)

Do we trust them though?  :nonono:

Yeah I'm not happy with the decay of it particularly on its northern and eastern edge. Hope it peps up a bit!

Should still reach Sheffield i think, although probably only a few hours of snow. Main band to go to the south of us.

Only a few hours of snow... If you don't want it, I'll be more than happy for "only a few hours of snow"

Nonetheless, its one of those situations that will keep on developing so be interesting too see what happens although some could end up in disappointment I suspect.

Its not looking good. Its loosing all cloud on its north eastern flank.

Might re-energizer, but its not looking good.

Today has been a strange day really. If we do miss out on this snow tonight that will leave us here with barely a covering and just a small layer of slush and ice.

However, places just 10 miles away are absolutely buried in the stuff! The beauty of the British weather I suppose.

Good luck to all tonight and even if we don't get lucky, there will surely be more opportunities for snow over the next week or so looking at the latest model runs, so nothing to be despondent about...

Conflicting reports on here tonight - is Huddersfield is the firing line?

Current guess not really. Looks like its dying, its also looking to be hugging the Irish coast, it has gone almost straight south for a bit.

Probably will give a few showers for you but more than that unlikely.

BBC graphics showed 4C and rain on Saturday

Firstly- BBC graphics = unreliable.

Secondly- Tomorrow and Saturday were always modelled to be a bit warmer before another chill down on Sunday. (I thought?)

Yes, looks as though Huddersfield could catch that first band. Thereafter it will be showers or dry :)

this first band is still on course for south and west yorkshire soon. its tilted a bit but still coming nicely. Still some bright yellows in it too and its not to fast. Should get some decent accumulation from this. I still beleive well get some of the stuff to follow aswell :)

Yeah the shape of this band threw me off a little because it made it appear to be going straight east. I just looked more closely though and it looks like we could get a few hours out of it.

Agree completely south yorkshire will see the first band and look at the second band rapidly intensifying with our name on it the snow is arcing more West to east as it hits the west

Reports of some thunder in Glossop. Never heard thunder during snow, that would be an excitement

First band inbound, snow reports from Sheffield within the next half hour. Dropped a couple of cm's so hopefully replicated, Not sure if that 2nd band entering Liverpool will get anywhere near us. I suspect not (perhaps Chesterfield at a push). Looking forward to the first snow reports :)
