It was the excitement of coming back here MIA that woke me up so early lol

I'm definitely more of an Autumn/Winter watcher than Spring/Summer so looking forward to lots of seasonal weather watching with you all :)

...and my heating isn't on yet but my onesie is!

Where's this chilly easterly wind? Another day of wall to wall warm sunshine in Stourbridge. 16c too. Been an excellent last few weeks overall here. Reckon we have been one of the sunniest places here in recent times too, at least for inland areas. Very few cloudy days.

Very chilly E wind here, all day, not really felt like Spring, nevermind summer

How strong was it? Barely a breath of wind for much of the time here. We have done so well again. :)

Max of 14.3c here in the end, generally sunny from 1-5pm then cloud rolled back in.

Dodged the easterly breeze here to, practically no wind to be honest.

But the XC weather animation maps suggest the wind hasn't exceeded Beaufort 3 or 13mph overall today? Even with 'gusts' it can't be that bad. http://www.xcweather.co.uk/observations

Well the house was beautiful and we are going to try and get it...... the Big Snow clan could be back at 200m asl just before winter kicks in proper... added bonus is that the house comes with its very own snow shovel......Landlord looked at me and said " you will be needing this".....fingers and toes crossed that we cant get the house and i can again join the Midlands hunt for snow this winter....

My first post, have been watching from afar for some time now.

Fine start to the day but clouding over now, hope for some more of the autumn sun that has made the colour changes look stunning.

A nice frosty coating is the next item I am waiting for

Greetings moorlander and a big welcome to Netweather. :)

Is sure getting to that time of year where seeing crisp, white, icy blankets covering the ground becomes more and more likely. Will be nice to see the first (proper) frost. And then before you know it, the first flakes of Autumn/Winter will have hopefully started to fall (if snowy weather is your kind of thing).

Definitely been a reasonable day so far though with a fair amount of sunny spells mixed with some cloudier periods. But in spite of the temperature currently being around 12.5*C, feels quite warm compared to the freezing conditions this morning.

Welcome Moorlander + nice to see you again Snowcatcher

I see you have a bit of height there. We welcome people who can see the snow falling outside.

I am about to prune my trees so that I can see the streetlights!.

(it doesn't happen often here so I cannot afford to miss it!)  :aggressive:  :sorry:  :D :D :D

Have you a good view ?

Temp just reached 13.0C here earlier this pm, but is dropping now as really dark clouds creep down from your direction.

At least you have some street-lights! It's pitch black here out in the sticks with the nearest one around 1/3 mile away, But I have recently installed a new1000w floodlight which should do the job. We just need some snow now.. :D

Welcome to the 'madhouse' Moorlander  :hi:

Thanks for the nice welcome.

Love the height, been here 30 years and have no plans to move. have an SSSI patch some 70m from my front door so walks on frosty mornings are superb.

On a good day can see the Wrekin to the SE and Cheshire gap to the NE. Take a short walk the other side of the village and the Roaches/blackshaw moor come into view. The only bug bear is the ever increasing light pollution which really erks me as I like to star gaze from time to time. Still with these clear nights getting up early to take a peak at Venus whilst having my first brew of the day is still special.

Agreed something special about the night sky at the moment.

Had to get up at 04:00 this morning, I peeked out looking south  - there was Orion in all its glory.

What time is Venus rising now?

Would love to see both at the same time, with Venus passing thru Orion.

Are you around the Great Ness, / Wem area?

Venus should be visible at 6am Due East, if you have dark enough skies you should also be able to make out Saturn and maybe Mars.

In their current positions they make it possible to visualise with the naked eye the arcs the planets take on their journey around the sun.

I intend on making the most of this weather whilst it lasts.

As for location NE Staffordshire.

  • April 2024 - Was it that cold overall? A look at the statistics

General perception from many is that April was a cold month, but statistics would suggest otherwise, with the average temperature for the whole month coming in just above the 30 year average for the UK as a whole.
