Plenty of showers here today, with light northerly winds, quite

Strange really because if this was winter all the shower activity

Would pass to my west over N Wales.

Thought that myself, a dry morning was followed by torrential showers with T&L thrown in for good measure and from a direction where we usually see nothing but bright sunshine.

Never mind, all will be back to normal when winter arrives.

It's all to do with the power of the sun. Enough heating to get the convection going. In midwinter, it just isn't there the power of the sun, it can be at the back end of winter.

Late Feb really yeah, but still weak then, by time sun is strong enough, time of year is too warm for long lasting snow,

A very convective and showery opening to autumn 2015:

second day in a row, the showers have held off until about 3pm and then the heavens have opened up - still enough heat in the day to bloom those showers - no thunder or lightning but bucket loads of rain.

Thanks for the explanation, I was going to ask in the learning

Out with a friend on a delivery to Chorley.  Bloody cold and showery day, we managed a scorchio 14C which is well down on what it should be.  Under showers temp dropped to 11C.  Now we have the promise yet again of "jam tomorrow" early next week with high pressure finally taking residence over us and some decent temps.  No doubt this is just a repeat what's happened all too often during this past "summer", with the HP quickly batted out of the way by yet another *&%$"! low pressure.

Just come back in after taking the dog on a decent two hour walk and it certainly feels like autumn is just around the corner.

At least it stayed dry but it certainly wasn't t shirt conditions although nothing that a hot brew couldn't sort.

I can understand people's desire for a northerly in winter, but what is there to like about one between late April and early October? All this has brought for me today is a 13C max and the typical stratocumulus infill by 10:00-11:00. It feels like late October out there! To top it off, it looks like it could start to rain too.

Hardly "pleasant" and "comfortable".

Well I have enjoyed this week's weather personally. I experienced a lot of pleasantly warm sunshine away camping in Holyhead on Tuesday and today, with just a bit of rain yesterday. I returned today to more sun back in Liverpool. The Northerly has meant the air feels very fresh, clear and sharp, which I have found most inviting. If I missed some thunder while I was away then I am a little disappointed, but the nice weather in Anglesey negates that.

Other than a few drops of rain towards tea time, a dry day here although mainly cloudy and cool.

It could be better but it certainly could be worse and hopefully things are finally on he mend with a decent weekend in prospect.

Such are the low levels of expectation we have set ourselves this summer.
