Storm & Convective Discussion - 20th August 2015 onwards

Definitely (quite considerably in fact) more humid today than yesterday. The thick haze testifies to this, just a shame the thickness of the haze will suppress temperatures, although already it's very warm feeling.

Fingers crossed for the odd spark and a peel of thunder later

I would say the complete opposite here, freezing here today compared to yesterday and humidity very low, sin is in and out but more so going behind low cloud now.

Not expecting anything from the main band pushing up just heavy rain.

Prehaps a few sharp showers this afternoon and then tomorrow looks like a right wash out with no storms

South west wales seeing some action which is moving north west. A pic from yesterday showing a difference a mile can make. I was sat in the pub not far away with sunshine and rain but not the deluge shown here

Really??? Complete opposite here - I hasten to add I am judging it on the feel and without question it's more humid. Marginally agitated mid levels here too with some small jellyfish and some weakly vertical Ac, only barely nudging AcCas status in some instances.

Rain looks pretty benign though to the south so debatable whether anything will be too intense here.

As I expected, no real action overnight imports wise. Maybe the odd sferic this afternoon.

Had some torrential rain on Hayling Island here briefly as that rain band edged over, moderated a lot now though it's windy and feeling much cooler. Hopefully the rain will shift away so we can get out and about this afternoon.

Quite a long-lived area of storms moving NW ahead of the cold front this morning. They moved in from the Channel across Hampshire/Dorset, through Wilts/Somerset and now trundling up through Monmouthshire, Herefordshire and on into central Wales.

06z GFS shows a narrow corridor of weak instability ahead and parallel to the cold front, strongest SBCAPE over N Wales, NW England and N. Ireland early afternoon, so strongest likelihood for thunder here, though thunder possible further east ahead of front as it continues NE.

I'm pretty sure that storm that moved through Somerset/Wilts moved right over me, and I was asleep. -.-

Oh looks like it reinvigorated as it past, typical somerset/wilts.

Wow. Feeling very oppressive here. Quite windy too, but feels nice. It's unbearable indoors!

28.4 mm of rain has fallen so far today here. Quite a lot of rain and way more than expected that's for sure!

Meteociel NMM seems to be showing a squall line for this evening.

:D  Would be nice to get a gust front along it's leading edge too - could be very photogenic.

Becoming very breezy here, but very warm too, with milky skies to the south and west.

It could be quite an interesting rain band actually. The radar is already showing some embedded thunderstorm cells trying to develop in there. As the heat of the day increases, then I suspect that this could develop further, into some sort of squall line...

The fuel is certainly there. Sun is still out here and feeling very humid despite the moderate SE wind. The band is already showing some brighter echoes developing too.

26c here currently.

Game over down in Surrey. Rain passed through just very dull and no real warmth left. Very pointless overnight humidity as it led to nothing and just made for a very uncomfortable evening.

This sort of weather I don't really get - when we have all the heat yesterday and it just fizzles away despite clearly having fronts passing over.

A disappointing day weather-wise.

The cold front is perking up a bit now as it moves into the midlands, individual cells embedded within the front and firing up and should be joining up in the next couple of hours, forming a squall.

You posted the same time as me! Albeit more eloquently, so quoting for more exposure.

A squall would be nice. Something approaching photogenic to give a little interest :)

Noticed some high based towers advecting NW earlier. May give something for the northerners soon!

Getting very dark from that approaching rain band.
