Incredibly the strong wind has just changed from a south westerly round to a north westerly, just like that! Even though the front hadn't moved through yet. Anyone know how that is? The isotherm line must be moving faster toward the est coast in the end than we first thought.

Good news rapid drop in temperature from 38.4C to 36.9C is about ten minutes.

Looks like 36.8C is our high. Only 5.1C higher than the previous July record and 2.8C above the August 1990 one. 😲

I think (hope) these will stand for a long time.

How is this happening though? Is it the encroaching front? I thought the heat was meant to peak in yorksire today rather than dwn south. Still very hot but marked cool down taking place.

At last the max has been reached and now edging down, Max was 41.7 C=107 F, now down 1C

I'll be very happy never to have to experience such values ever again

Didn't quite make it here, topped out at 39.7c lol but very close!

So close but still a crazy temp for my area. Been an interesting few days, thanks for all joining in and making it fun as we always do in this thread 😎👍

Temps coming down now here, hope the breeze keeps up and we can open the windows later on and clear some of the heat out. Still looks like an uncomfortable night to come though with temps still around 20 min

39.4C looks like the official high temperature for Sheffield today, going by a recent Met Office tweet. Yesterday's new record of 35.9C obliterated as expected. 39.4C is just shy of 103F.

38.8C here so sounds about right for Western Park.

We are now down to 33.8C a very rapid drop.

Snap one of the times I regret sound proofing my room which I now use as an office. Added 3c to 5C to the temperatures in the room.

Hull reached 37C I think. The onshore breeze was just too strong in these parts. Still impressive though!

Still sweltering here. Can see multiple plumes of smoke from the 3-4 fires reported in the area.

We’ve topped out at 34c, last reading at 3.40pm. Checked against Staxton Wold station (Davis Vantage Pro2 Plus) & it was comparable 👍🏼. Not sure if it’s a private station or on the RAF site…

Still 30.1C here too. We had a sudden rise in pressure of around 1.0hPa around 18:45 and the wind switched direction completely from SE to NW. Looks like we wont be getting a sea breeze to cool down tonight!

Thanks for the updates Reef, I always keep a close eye on your readings (and posts) as you're only a few miles up the road from me in East Hull and closest to official readings 🙂

7.30pm we were still at 30c

9.30pm dropped to 27/26.5c

10.30pm 25.5c (because you asked so nicely)

It is gonna be a hot one tonight. Still as you like out there!

I’ve been saying this since Mon, that the forecast was showing the hottest night tonight, with very little drop in temps throughout the whole night. Couldn’t understand why so many were saying it’s just Mon/Tues & oh, can’t wait for Wed….well it looks like it’s gonna a be a slow decline over the next 18/24hrs so keep those fans out tonight 🌡👍🏼
