technically he is right the wording is South England and south Wales *and* coasts which I take to mean all coasts.

Its also two days away for the people who are expecting snow, we cant have it both ways, if its ok to get exited about snow a few days away its surely ok to be sceptical too.

Of course its two days away and can change, but very few people say that when anyone is getting exited.    Some people are always really hopeful some people always very cautious, there is room for both.

Of course it's ok to be cautious. I never said it wasn't and of course that works either way.

When I read that warning it didn’t say S Wales it just said Wales. They must’ve made a typo. But costal marginality is worrying

Good luck mate, vast majority sail though, chances are you'll be one of those!

(not to downplay it all of course)

Sorry Dexter, wasnt meant to be having a go and this forum is pretty balanced these days, but particulaly in the model thread it seems to be fine to mention snow chances a week or more away for a given location, but if you get disappointed if the models change with a few days to go, you get hammered for not understanding how unpredictable these things are.

6Z update.

T850’s continue to be slightly downgraded now -7.5 is coldest which leads me to suspect it will be slightly marginal at times in West Wirral and west Merseyside.
Coldest air is delayed again by 1–2 hours now starting 5–7 a.m.

Sunday’s front is  further south but we still get precip max rate now about 1.5 mm/h.

No worries. Yeah, I just avoid the mod thread nowadays to be honest. You're right, never well received if someone says something unpopular or tries to provide a balanced view.

As expected Met Office warning at least for this evening and Saturday.

Typical that the feature is sliding South on Sunday, this has little marginality about it, so many times this seems to happen.

I'll bet we'll have our heaviest snowfall of the season so far on Tuesday, but it will turn to rain and all be gone.

Never know may see change in fortune on Sunday, equally wont be surprised to see it correct further south. Lost track how many times features dont want to approach Cumbria, we never have a rain shield!

You may well be right, who knows. We'll get a better idea tomorrow. If the warning slips further South then chances will certainly be looking slim.

its not often  you see a snow icon from the metoffice, let alone a full day of them...  a rare sight.  Trouble is - will it actually happen?  I cant remember a snow forecast that delivered here, more often than not we see downgrades on the wirral.

https://www.metoffice.gov.uk/weather/forecast/gcmzkm288#?date=2021-01-23

Our icons are a little less of snow.. mixed with sleet. Must be more marginal on the west side. Which I suppose it would be if there is a WNW wind.

One thing I've noted about these shower scenarios at the coast is that relative height doesn't actually matter as much...

I recall having rain at 100m ASL whilst further inland at 15m ASL they had snow.
