I'm in Spain at the mo. Heard whispers off locals that they think 50c+ could happen. Its currently 38c where I am, 41c forecast tomorrow. That rain up by Zaragoza we could have done with some in the South, the ground is rock hard and parched. Lots of flys and wasps gathering round the outside tap to get water

A regular occurrence during the Gota Fría in autumn, much less common in the summer months though… especially somewhere as dry as Zaragoza!

Mate , we will agree to disagree. Yes I do dispute the scaremongering but if I had half an hour I could tell you why. Example among many from historical data. Climate change so they tell us brings extreme weather, 1886 had Severn major hurricanes in the USA, unheard of today , three were in June which never happens now!  Anyway I will leave you with my thoughts and wish you a good day.😊

So, only when, or if, the USA records eight major hurricanes in a single year, will you ever accept the fact that the World is warming (at a faster rate than ever before) and that human activity accounts for a large part of that? 🤔

Absurd night time temperatures across parts of the Canary Islands last night, 41C at 1am is quite something. Reason is due to adiabatic heating as hot air collapses down the mountains, sending in a surge of very strong and hot, dry winds. I remember something similar in Fuerteventura during mid August 2021, but it was close to 30C rather than 40C, though still very hot. The winds are named 'Bajaradas.'

A record breaking upper level ridge looks to be over the islands in recent days.

Think you will find you will be in the low 30c's of a day and low 20's of a night, and sunny. I think Barcalona will miss out on the extreme heat, unless someone more learned than I can say anything more.

Extremadura in the South East area of Spain has had ground temps of 60c!! Im near Cordoba atm, we've had temps of 42/43c, uncomfortabley hot

Thank you for this post - just been looking at the Wunderground stations on the Canaries and it is awful there at the moment. On Gomera for example, multiple stations have recorded and increase in temp since mid-evening to around 40c but the DP is around 0c and the humidity is crazy low around 10%.

Must be an extreme fire risk there right now?!

After a few cooler days, it looks like Spain is back in the furnace next week. Interesting to see the heat quite far north, looks like a 42C for Bilbao, which would equal the record there as foehn comes into play with southerly winds.

Remains to be seen how much of this reaches the UK, but France also turning much hotter.

Expected temperatures this week for the Canary Islands as a Calima takes hold from AEMET.

Mid to high 30s for parts of inland Fuerteventura, and into the low 40s for inland Gran Canaria if I've read it right.

False surely, all I can see is a high of 39c for Valencia today.

Meteociel don't show the full range of stations many areas into the mid 40s.

Hi is anyone whonreads spanish weather models able to advise on the balearic island of majorca weather projection... off on holiday from 27th August. Thanks in advancel

Bit far out for anything certain, but some models are hinting for something maybe a bit thundery / unsettled remaining days of August, as a trough from the UK sinks down southward. Wouldn't last long if that did happen and likely back to settled / dry conditions soon after.
