This mornings drive to work on the Yorkshire Wolds! Snow twice in one week, not a bad start to winter!

It's a shame that the rest of December and indeed winter is certain to be mild based off current model output.

Consoling myself by looking out at the snow cover that wasn't forecast by that same model output

My sum up the Autumn is 3 months of bland with a few days of impressive thrown in. Impressive blips were the September heatwave, and the storm with a bit of snow the next day. First settling Autumn snowfall I've had for a long time.

Sounds like a contradiction here if you're writing off Winter due to current modelling yet the same models not able to forecast snow at short range

Well the models this evening have finally knocked the stuffing out of the hyper ramping in the Mad thread that’s been continuing for 2-3weeks now. No cold anytime with some potentially stormy weather in the first half to December.

Well meto forecast not exactly brimming with hope either if wanting a more seasonal feel over xmas - the log fire in my local will be rarely lit

some interesting weather coming up,but of the wind variety not snow lol.

So frustrating trying to get snow and cold into uk,you wonder why we bother each winter looking and hoping when it rarely arrives.

hard to even go looking for it elsewhere in the world  for obvious reasons, still!!

We are on day 5 of snow cover here and I don’t live on a mountain.

Well finally we look to be getting some interesting weather down here. Next week looking tasty. Wet and wild. Love that with the odd surprise thrown in. This last month has been soooo tedious so bring on the Atlantic.

Had another snow cover here tonight which is 3 now in the last week alone. Very decent start to Winter. Quite often early starts to Winter bode well going forward - it usually means all is not "normal". That's my 71 years of experience anyway. We'll see.

This winter looks to be quite mild but very wet at times. Cold and snow no where to be seen as the Icelandic lows continue the theme probably well into January and February. The pattern is set now.

Should be better for fuel bills however.

Snowing again - 5 days of snow this autumn/winter so far

Certainly helps being 700ft above sea level!

Good to see that winter 21/22 is very much keeping the status quo over on the model thread.

I hope its at least a repeat of winter 2020/21, with longer cold dry periods mixed with a bit of rain and some snow.

I don't want long boring periods of Atlantic wind and rain. That type of weather brings zero enjoyment, much like the dull cloudy periods during summer, where you can't enjoy the sunshine and warmth.

Apparently no snow this winter.

I've seen 4 separate snow falls already, and I live nowhere near a mountain

No, but you also live up north and 500ft above sea level

466 foot (Admittedly, I didn't realise I was that high up), but don't let Midlanders hear you call Stoke 'up north'. They'll lynch you

Some comments suggested snow is rare in the UK. Which is nonsense. It's just difficult to get it in low laying southern areas (I grew up in London, so I know how much winters there suck).

If you are north of the Watford gap then it's up north

I guess as around 28 million people live in the area classed as southern England then it's why you get the 'it never snows in the UK line carted out every year. Clearly untrue.

I say this from my location at 32ft above sea level surrounded by my snow shield!
