Full on winter this morning 0c with a still strong N wind and squally hail showers giving a dusting on the dried up frozen  surface the ground. Trees down on farm road but fortunately fell the right way from power and phone lines.Had been marked for felling by hydro board a few weeks back before clear fell this winter. Job done!!! A couple of skylights out in steading but so far that seems to be total damage.

The wood on the farm road lost quite a few trees some already marked by hydro board in anticipation of clear fell this winter.

Actually turned out a nice winters day with a max of 3c and occasional snow flurries, plenty sunshine in between.  Winds falling light during the afternoon, allowing a frost (-2c already).

Without power (now off until at least 6pm tomorrow) that forecast is not so lovely when the house heating is restricted to the cooker gas burner.  A frigid 6c in the bedrooms and the house supposedly has a B energy efficiency rating...

Spent day in Aberdeen as result to defrost and allow kids to download (cheers Dobbies free WiFi) all the media they apparently need to survive the next day or so.  Driving round there is a tremendous amount of damage to the trees, no wonder so many powerlines were broken.  

Just a incredible pity that there is no aurora this evening as there is no light pollution as the power is still out in the large nearby villages like Kemnay.

Opportunity for most to even end up with a little sprinkling of snow as a trough moves down from NW - SE, dewpoints look more than good main question just whether it can keep enough intensity the further southeast it moves but it's more fun as we near winter

Well 20 hours later the power is finally back on, thankfully the kitchen and livingroom stoves kept us fed and warm.  The snow tried hard to come through all day with a regular flurry in-between lovely winter sunshine.  It's very cold tonight with a hard frost.  Such a contrast to the soggy murk of late.  The wind is hanging on in the background but I'm just too cozy to care. Enjoy whatever you're having folks.

This is quite sad. I was in Findhorn last week and there were some lovely wooded areas just back from the sand dunes. Really hope they’ve survived relatively intact.

[A Winter's Tale]

First covering of snow of the winter - hopefully the first of many. Looking at the radar it looks like the precipitation is heavier further south and east so I imagine some places should have a decent covering of snow.

Woke and up and expected a frost outside. Look out the window and it’s snowing and now a whiteout. Met Office forecast predicted clear skies and some cloud this morning. Didn’t expect this.

Apparently the power has just come back on in Pittenweem but I’m not there to confirm or report on any dusting 

Had a nice evening in Dundee, not seeing any evidence of snow down by the river but maybe there is further up the town. Just woke up!
