Wonder if we're getting the sunsets from the Tonga eruption?

Steady rain for the last half hour.

We have some weather.

I have to say, having been on the NE coast for a few weeks now there is some security and calm to the west mids weather on the whole. Never seen winds like this weekend past back home. Its pretty scary when you get intense 60 mph gusts for an hour or two! Does put you off living up here permanently, with climate change those north sea lows will only get more intense. At least down here you know, at worst youre talking 50-60mph gusts but its fairly rare on the whole?

Don’t think climate change has anything to do with it, the North Sea has always had a reputation as one of the most violent and unpredictably - that’s why HMS Endeavour was a converted Whitby collier, built to withstand the worst weather on earth!

Last night as the cold front went thru' had quite a bit of excitement here.

Dustbin day today,    and they come at about 08:00 so we all put them out overnight.

3:30 woke up by  a bang and a huge gust of wind. Followed by 2 or 3 others of lesser noise.

This morning - bins fallen over and rubbish everywhere, but most of it in my front garden, due to its 'open' plan design.

It's got everything to do with it. Warmer atmosphere, more instability, more energy for low pressure systems to gain momentum. They'll get deeper and more energetic in years to come.

How do you know? We’re struggling to predict next week at the moment!

What a boring winter, but the lack of wind and rain (until recently) has been great. Cannot stand such conditions and haven't missed them one bit.

After a look back through some quite long local records it seems  that 77.8 hrs of sunshine here in January makes it the sunniest for over 100 years, at least, in this area.

starting to look good again for here Friday into Saturday , plenty of deep hill snow could be on the way.

if it comes off, it will be the 6th or 7th moderate to heavy fall so far this winter

A thin covering of snow here after several moderate-heavy snow showers since sunset.

A cold and very gusty wind here.  We have had an inch of rain in the last two days ,so February is shaping up to be very different from January, both in terms of the feel and the stats....
