Lovely winter’s day here, sunny and 3°C. Still a fair bit of snow around

Looking increasingly likely we'll have a settled and chilly lead up to Christmas. I'll take that. Always disappointing and grim when it's mild in the run up.

Id take -15.9 in may - imagine the inland convection in may - full on snowstorms breaking out everywhere - all hell let loose.

13°C and sunny today in Sheffield - a better day than much of spring was! Loving every second of it.

Really disappointed that the short range model thread is about as popular as Boris Johnson.

If I was even slightly knowledgeable I'd post in there, but it seems that most people are only focused on finding the holy grail post 144hrs.

Such a shame.

Is it a technical thread? I'm not technical but nearly posted charts about tomorrows horrendous rain forecast for the NW Midlands, being overlooked, probably because SE are going to miss it, and it looks like only affecting from approx Crewe to Coventry

Not a technical thread, just a short range model thread.

Some of the most bland model runs of the year being churned out right about now. Looks like we'll have to wait until 2022 now for any actual weather.

There's been a short term model thread before, and it died a death a last time too. I think it might become busier when snow is imminent, but the general model thread will still remain the busiest thread I think, even when snow is on our doorstep.

Better mild and wet than chilly and wet.

Not so sure to be honest, as we had examples of each on Thursday and Saturday and the conditions on Thursday were a good deal more agreeable IMO than those on Saturday. With chilly wet weather the air tends not to be so saturated at all levels so we can get an 'open' feel with good visibility of perhaps 10 miles or more, and the cloud base tends to be higher. Mild and wet, as Saturday, the air tends to clag up with low cloud, very low cloud bases of perhaps 100 metres (estimate here), and you're lucky to see even a couple of miles.

To be honest I prefer the chilly and wet, mostly for that reason.

I wish May was only 702 hours away. Don't get me wrong, I like a bit of snow and frost - but the lowland UK winter just drags on too long. I'd be happy if we 'lost' one month of winter, maybe something like Dec 27 - Jan 26.

Revoltingly mild out there today at the moment but it looks like it should be getting chillier out there by weekend.  Fingers crossed it'll at least be a frosty Christmas this year even if it doesn't snow.
