There was actually some showery outbreaks of rain here yesterday, mixed with some sunshine. Another bright start this morning with just some patchy high cloud.

Met Office weather warning in place for today. A band of heavy showers moving east with risk of hail and lightning. Below, NMM example precip chart for 17.00 this afternoon, but don't take positioning literally as other models have the showers scattered elsewhere.

I'll be keeping an eye on development and see if the sky clears as I will charge my phone for another time lapse whilst I'm currently about to finish compiling a video for the UK thunderstorm ironically, I've also found this from the storm in July where I saw rotation and a small hook with a wall cloud right next to this bit just out of shot on radar. Might have been a small Supercell because of the wall cloud and rotation I saw. I'll stop going off topic and it maybe's but I think it was a funnel cloud right above me.

Afternoon all

Just been out for my lunchtime constitutional in East London.

Wind definitely picking up and some hints of drizzle/light rain developing (confirmed by NW radar) well in advance of what looks an organised band of showers/rain which is just reaching Salisbury - I presume this is the cold front coming east.

Is it possible we'll see more activity in advance of this frontal system early afternoon?

This is definitely one of those systems it just depends on the amount of convectivity, shear is looking strong right now from that racing low level jet and any gaps are filled with some moderate convection as far as I can see so it's definitely not out of the question and I wouldn't be surprised if there was

Couple of areas of intense rain moving across the Region. It'll be wet under those echoes!

Afternoon all, hope we all had a nice Christmas and a happy new year. I’ve very uninterested in weather in recent months it has been extremely boring.

2021 scored shockingly poor for sunshine, I can only hope 2022 is a significant improvement.

Love to see those bright red colours again on the radar, if only it was summer it gives of those storm vibes that there's going to be lots of activity when it arrives.

Yeah my dad was hoping for some thunder too as having a bit of excitement is always nice but it was unlikely, but still it's nice to see actual weather again unlike what December was..

Sorry if this post seems a little spammy but that was just so spectacular to me and I've also got a few camera photos that'll hopefully attach to my computer from the broken wire later.

Dodged it here in Colchester, barely enough rain to wet the ground while soakings sail by on either side hehe

Weird , nothing in colchester.

Thunder and hail.

We had a rain shower...

It was pretty lively here for around 15-20 mins with the wind really picking up on the back edge of the squall.

Total rain for the day - 7.8mm.
