There are definitely two directions of movement that can help us bring air from the east but hundreds of directions that won't. A lot of that involves the African wave and what type of momentum we get from the Azores. We've got to hope that it drags the jet south or north but that relies on the extremities and so will only happen 1 times out of however many. There's a lot to rely on here and we have to keep an eye out because it can turn any time (much like the last one), for better or worse...

Hold on what have we got here?
image.thumb.png.a79caaef9ccf4e5679d5c86dc4226e04.png
We've got a Rossby wave hitting an Azores low and rotating it slightly into the same trajectory of NE ejection as of 2018, we can dream once again...

Yes extraordinary ,against the flow as such ..we would all  like summer to.be summer ,winter to be winter, autum to be windy ,spring to be showery. .that's how we have been taught

Eerie turbulence in the skies today, not that it signals much but it does look good on pictures.

Heavy burst of rain then a quick temperature drop..

This morning’s increase was just as rapid! Must have been a very warm sector wrapped in with the rain?

Evening all, cold rain this morning on the dog walk, mud, lots of mud.  With most of the field slimed on the underside of the dog.   Low light and just enough wind to get the rain straight in our faces.   Repeat during late afternoon walk, with exception that it was dark on the return section, very effectively hiding the most slippy slidey bits.  What's not to like about January in England   Currently 6C after a high of 10.8C at 14:30.  Wind from a WNW direction and 6mph. Pressure currently 993.4hPa slowly rising.  Have had 3.3mm of rain since midnight - my dog and I will swear to that being incorrect and there's been at least eleventy billion times more than that!

What a wet day, certainly had some rain. Hopefully something a bit drier and brighter from midweek, i'll take that. Better than laden grey skies, which sums up my mood, as the search for the elusive continues. It seems to be getting harder and harder each winter. March 2013 was the last decent winter wonderland. I'd take the usual 4 day offering at the moment. One day it will all work out.

After yesterdays all day rain, this morning has started dry but chilly, 2c but think it was lower when I went out at half 6, slight frost in places and a couple of slippery paths, but hey at least its blue sky and sunshine to start the day.

27.7mm of rain in the end yesterday. Like others, it has dawned cold and sunny this morning with a low of 0.6c and now rising.

Have a lovely Sunday

How lovely and what a mood enhancer!  Enough of a frost earlier to harden the mud slightly for early dog walk.  Beautiful blue sky and sun with really clear visibility for a change.  Can easily see the young buzzard sitting patiently in neighbour but one’s tree who, with its parent, regularly quarters our back garden and the open meadow land beyond.  Even when the rooks buzz his(?) tree, he/she is sitting tight unless they get really close.  Then it will do a quick circle and land on the same branch to wait for   Mama to come back with some food.  The only downside to the new neighbours is it seems to have discouraged the local red kites from regularly flying over our garden.
Unfortunately,  cloud is expected back this afternoon and can see it approaching. Still, this glorious morning has been a rare and much appreciated treat.

It's either got to be snowing or mild in Winter, anything else is too cold or northing to look at

It has felt much more like winter this past week, this new upcoming week looking even more seasonal. Frost and fog potentially lingering all day in our part of world we’ll be colder than Scotland.

Sometimes this is exactly what we need to get the surface temps ready, if long enough, even build our very own minus 850s, then and moisture will be snow, northerlies can be less of a waist if we are already cold, as long as the warm sector stays east.

Lol Kent gritting got caught out, they did the primary routes, but road temps have drop much lower than expected so they went out and done the rest too.

Was a bit slippery on the country roads in Kent this morning after temperatures dipped close to freezing last night with wet roads after yesterday's rain. Felt the steering wheel develop its own direction at one point on a bend but fortunately kept control.

Yep very slippery out this morning, black ice from the rain, worst type of frost.

A lot colder here than forecast at -0.7c currently, though looking at the local weather stations we seem to be benefitting from our “frost hollow” effect as everyone else seems to be a couple of degrees above freezing.

Lovely sunrise this morning. Minimum temperature of 0C overnight giving a light frost, but patchy cloud cover coming and going saw some fluctuation with the temp.

Looks like more settled, frosty weather may be on the way, starting this week as High Pressure settles over southern UK. Here's Thursday at 07.00 from this morning's GFS:

Ended up 5c colder than the 3c forecast as I recorded a low of -1.9c so a lovely thick frost to start the day under the pink sky.
