Another nonsensical text forecast from the Met. I give up with them. Unless The expected convergence zone this evening sparks anything then it will be wrong.

Heavy showers easing this evening.

This Evening and Tonight:

Thundery showers will ease through the evening, but it will remain cloudy and mild overnight, with a little light rain possible over the tops of the hills. Minimum temperature 9 °C.

One wonders if the Met O put an armagedon forecast out for our region,  would we still avoid any severe weather?

Definitely, we’d just get drizzle.

What is it about the Irish sea ? , its a storm killer for the populated  mainland of the NW  , but storms will actually form over the water itself , then always push into non populated areas of North Lancs , South east cumbia,  seen this many many times ,  Areas like South Lancs, Manchester etc never seem to be in their track

Not sure what is causing shower formation over Morecambe Bay, bit none transferring into Lake District.. answer's please. They are very slow moving. Nothing more frustrating than being on the edge of heavy precipitation but nothing where you are.. worse when it's snow!

I think you'd give those tennis ball size hailstones a miss though. 😁

Understand folk wanting thunderstorms but missing out on on todays torrential drizzle, the closest we’d have to a storm has suited me fine.

It’s been a lovely day here with plenty of sunshine and much more bearable temperatures, just a shame I haven’t been able to get outside and enjoy it but I for one don’t want the dry weather to end, at least until we get to the other side of the BHW.

there’s plenty of time for dank and dreary conditions when we reach autumn and winter.

A dry day today with no showers at all, let alone anything of the thundery variety, which is not totally unexpected. All in all, a decent day, quite cloudy this morning, but this gave way to some decent sunny periods by this afternoon. A high of 21.6C and quite humid, but a nice breeze to keep things pleasant enough.

Gone very dark in Hyde on this camera looking east near B&M garden centre. Looks like it's raining albeit lightly.

Looking at the radar, and the way that the showers are pepping up on the eastern side of the Pennines, I’d have been 🤬 if this had been mid winter and the showers were snow but the difference this afternoon between this far East in our region and the western parts of Yorkshire is striking with just a few minutes drive between a dry afternoon and a wet one.

No surprise that the Yorkshire drought broke on the day it officially started.

Precipitation slowly moving NW ward towards us. Just teasing us no doubt before pivoting back into Yorkshire. Bone dry here once again can't even get a decent thunderstorm out of a heatwave these days.

I got all excited at 6pm, looking at the clouds here heading south whilst the convective line was moving north and hoping the CZ would have gone 'boom' but instead it's another 'dud' with barely any rain fallen. it looks like Sheffield was the place to be for today.

Looks like I’m getting the edge of a developing cell to my north-east. Wonder if it will electrify.

The lashings of heavy rain & occasional thunderstorms on the Eastern side of the pens have finally crawled over to this side in the form of decaying drops of spittle.  Keen wind though, much fresher now

Rain has reached here, but nothing very heavy, just steady.

It just about properly wet the ground, but it's drying up now.

Looked like there might be more on the way from the south, but the radar seems to show it dying out and even splitting a little.

Poor forecast and modelling, rain further north than forecast and more extensive. ECM looks closer to the mark

Bit odd all around really. I mentioned the rain "splitting" last night. Looking at the radar animation, it stills seems to be flowing west in the west and east in the east, sort of stretching, but carrying on. Just looks strange.
