An overnight low of 16.7C here. A contrast to the previous sunny mornings, with a predominantly cloudy and unstable looking sky.

Steady rain here, not stair rods.

Thick cloud approaching, quite a cool breeze, but that's more likely due to the previous heat! Not optimistic for thunder.

What is the cause for no storms, that's 2 heatwaves in a row now that haven't produced, I'm thankful for the rain though it's much needed even if it's miserable

Having driven through Cornwall and Devon on the way home, I can't imagine what the A30 looks like now and a rain rate of 250 to 300mm per hour.

Sometimes happens in the same way  not every cold spell  ends with a snowy breakdown

It’s the same old crap mate, time after time.

We’re not getting proper productive breakdowns to the heat because every time the Azores/Atlantic HP is muscling in straight after and sending stable mean NWlys around it’s flank. This is something Kasim pointed out yesterday.

This is why I wince when an Azores /Atlantic HP looks to dominate the summer. It’s no good. I’ve used the term ‘weather killer’ to describe the Azores high before because that’s exactly what it is. Great if you want weeks of very warm and dry weather but crap for anything else!

I said the same the other day as well about the Atlantic high. Hadley cell is expanding.
