As there wasn't much in the way of a storm in Andover i jumped in the car and was planning to head towards alton, however as i headed towards Basingstoke i punched through a small storm in Micheldever. Found a nice spot just on the outskirts of Basingstoke the lightning was Amazing constant strobe, CG lightning insane rain with hail mixed in. Got some shots of some lightning so ill post up later

So what are we calling this event for the next few years - the 18th May 2022 event?

I'm not so sure this event will be remembered that much. It looked really promising at the start but it's kinda weakened alot. For some it's a good show but it's kinda weak and looks like it will miss London. The night is still ongoing however

Long rumble of thunder

Not reached here yet, hope what you saw re fire engine, wasn't lightning related.

As I suspected, the rain shadow masked some of the glory of what was to come!

Pretty spectacler half an hours worth of nature's pyrotechnics.

Plenty of spectacler cc crawlers on a regular basis.

Due to the high based nature of this cell the thunder was mostly vague and uninspiring,no china cabinet rattlers this time!

Only one CG noted from my viewpoint.

Lightning 8/10

Thunder 4/10

Rainfall rate 6/10

Overall storm package 6/10

Edit, just had a huge overhead crack of thunder..might have been a close CG as the storm departs.. in bed now so who can tell!

I think north London will miss out on the lighting due to that gap, saw two flashes a while ago and distant thunder but that's about it

Flight24 has a lot of aircraft stacked doing nice circles and getting pushed further east than the normal holding patterns

Aircraft for Luton airport is being affected.

Stansted not so much yet but they are trying to get loads landed before hand

Well here comes the rain, closely followed by a nice deep boom of thunder!

Looooooong rumble of thunder.

But looks like it's dying off.

Something might have happened with the lightning, a fire engine and ambulance just came past.

It broke my internet and we had to reboot the router twice to get it back

Fairly average storm here. High based. Lots of lightening. Heavyish rain.  First one of the year.

Most of the storm has passed over me now,  really thought buckinghamshire was going to miss out and nearly headed elsewhere at 6pm to chase, I'm so glad my gut told me to stay local, it's been an amazing night

Whoever mentioned Boston and Skegness earlier, I think you're right, bit too South for me sadly

Judging by the Netweather radar it seems that the electrical activity is fizzling out as it heads into Lincolnshire, so Boston and Skegness may well just get heavy rain.

Well that estofex forecast was way off the mark!

most models performed well though. Some even showed the splitting that’s happened, maybe by chance!
