Hoping it doesn't. This is our best chance of getting a prolonged cold spell since 2010, but this pesky low decided to form at the worst time. Always something to scupper the cold in this country. It's not certain yet but I still think we have a good chance of getting a pretty cold December.

Yep The End of the Cold Spell is Nigh. Winter is Just about to end🙄🥺

No, that's not it at all... But UK weather comes in spells -- mild spells and cold spells. Even 1963 had a 'less-cold' spell.🤔

UKMO Yellow warnings out for Ice, Wed 6pm to Thurs Noon.  They cover East and Central NI, Wales and the East Coast from Edinburgh down to East Anglia.  They have minimum of -5 for my location tomorrow night, an upgrade on -3 earlier.  Local weather station has dived from a high of 7° at midday to 0 at 8pm, likely below freezing now as that cold starts to embed.  Just wish that Azores system would head E/SE and die! Haven't seen such good synoptics in years, would really hate for it to be ruined.

location wise you have big advantage over most of us!, likely wherever the low tracks over 300m asl will see little if any thaw/rain

I really don’t understand the panic and the “it’s over” comments..

this low which btw is only just forming and we don’t know how strong/how quickly it weakens (because it will weaken before it gets close to the UK.

it’s only normal models are playing with some ideas on where they think it’ll head.

but from my POV, I won’t comment on what could possibly be significant snow or just cold & dry, or maybe a mild blip. Who knows. I’ll wait until Friday when we will know a lot more on what position we will be in.

for now we will just keep seeing a lot of chop and changing.

Can't be over can it. It's not happened yet however you view it. 24 hours is a long time, ie"TEITS"often said. Least sad, soonest mended 🙏🙏🙏

You wait 12 years for a decent greeny block to come along in December and an Azores hurricane pops up to undo it all!

it’s not actually clear how this would have evolved without the feature but it would certainly have been better modelled

I knew that Azores storm would be trouble!!  Couldn't make it up!! 😠

Mention a guy who's posted for 20 years and it gets moved. Chatting about sledges is fine tho. Thanks and goodnight - - - - - - - 😔

That other LOW at +60 is going into Iberia?

Could contain: Plot, Chart, Map, Atlas, Diagram

At +48 it is primed below the high.

Could contain: Plot, Chart, Map, Atlas, Diagram, Nature, Outdoors, White Board

At one point ECM was convinced that LOW was going to come crashing into the UK before this cold spell could even get started.

The one before the NHC feature, right? The jet over iberia should drag them into the iberias. Not towards the UK.
