Typical. Get some snow and conditions have changed so it won't stick any more.

The majority of 4x4s are a nightmare to drive under these conditions. Normal car with winter tyres all the way.

True. Traction is no compensation for lack of grip.

Bit of a drip here in the sunshine, but I can imagine some of this will hang around overnight again which would make it three days with lying snow. Now I've only been in Nantwich just over a year but I believe that is a rare thing.

Absolutely though with right tyres and  chains  you could drive it up a mountain, I’ll drive wifes fiat for now 😂

Moderate snow falling here although oddly enough there doesn't seem to be anything on the RADAR other than a fading shower to the north.

Yes, too many people think having a 4x4 is all they need, and can drive as normal. The problem is a lot have low profile summer tyres on......

There's a video on Twitter of a Range Rover stuck, and a Panda 4x4 overtaking it and driving off up the hill.....

It's all about winter tyres in this weather, although they're still not great in the sheet ice that's all over the roads around here!

True but you can't do anything about sheet ice unless you put on chains and remove them again when the road is clear. Talking about chains, even the Greek driving licence test is introducing now a mandatory lesson how to fit the chains in the vehicle's tyres.

its about staying on safe roads and driving well. no one can drive on true sheet ice unless you are studded on thin tyres. in terms of vehicle closer u are to a lightweight 4x4 with narrow asf winter / mud tyres and metal studs the better.

Unusually the early morning snow left us at modest elevation with more of a covering than there was on the upper slopes of Ingleborough across the valley. 4th day with snow falling this winter, 14th with lying snow.

Looks like that's it for the snow chances for awhile...a slow creeping advance of milder conditions for us in the west.... might a cloudy high.  Not the most inspiring stuff weather wise.  Had a few dustings but still way short of my foot fall deep of snow witnessed 3 times between 2009-11... nothings come near it since.

Glossop usually struggles in a polar maritime flow.

But generally does better than most other parts of the region so peaks and troughs 🙂

Based on most recent winters in the NW I think Cheshire is the sweet spot for snow, particularly mid and SE Cheshire.

Shower activity tends to be very reliable from most NW’ly flows, and the area can pick up the tail end of more northerly streamers as they push south. Also avoids the maritime influence of the coast.

Areas further north in the region seem to be far less prone even with some altitude.

Obviously easterlies change everything up but how often do they happen!
