Had about 4-5cm in total this wintry  spell - a 2cm slight covering Tuesday night into Wednesday & a 2-3cm covering last night not bad for my location & considering it was a showery setup but nothing spectacular we just fell lucky when often we don’t or fall on the wrong side of marginal.

It’s been a strange but interesting winter so far some deep sub zero ice days of Dec cold but virtually snowless & the recent January snow but just not the real deal cold spell with a widespread snow event with lasting snow cover we all want to see. Remainder of January looks close to average & drier with maybe some interest into Feb but we shall see.  Going to enjoy  & try not to slip 😄 on the last of the snow cover tonight & tomorrow who knows when the white stuff will return?!  👀❄️

Interesting day in the marginals- two very active cells came through at 5.00am and roughly 6.00am couple of inches of snow put down,  Got to work early-nice drive with few cars on the road. Watched the traffic carnage develop. Generally bright day, slight thaw between about 1.30 and 3.pm. Now  -0.5 but could freeze really hard if clouds clear and it looks like they might. Take care if you're out and about. Hope the possible upcoming high isn't a cloudy one!

Mmm we seem to be developing our own snow shield here in central lake district so far this winter, snow all around, but little here. In December northern parts of the county received a good fall, and southern margins of the county unusually, we were just on the edge with a cm cover. The last few days have been exceptionally frustrating, indeed today coastal Morecambe Bay regions saw snow early hours, but nothing here, and again the total amount has been a patchy dusting...

Third time lucky I hope in February, remainder of the month looking a carbon copy of much of last Jan, dry probably some colder air - but not very interesting.

Both cold spells have not delivered on widespread snow, no trough feature moving through to give a good covering or frontal feature.

Its a milder evening so far, current temp 3.1 degrees, there is quite a breeze about, should drop through the night and with clearing skies a frost will develop.

Yes, clouded over and temp has risen here, can hear drip, drip outside.  Snow was starting to harden a couple of hours ago, now beginning to slide off shed roof.  Just under 3° at the moment, airport up to 4°.

I never would have thought that the snow this morning would be so much. Weirdly Nantwich had considerably more than Crewe so went for a walk round there instead. Some places were untouched with the snow in the trees until midday etc...other places on the walk it had melted in certain areas. Both gave beautiful views.

Yes we kept skirting the showers here last night…annoying to say the least! Rare for Nantwich to do better snow wise.

A balmy 3.9c here at the moment! A lot of cloud and higher dew points being dragged in off the Irish Sea.

Not a lot to say about the weather other than once again and away from the northern parts of Scotland; a cold spell that offered the chance of snow for many actually delivered for very few.

it’s nice that for once, our usually snow starved region took the lions share and up here, much of the 3-4 inches from earlier in the week is still intact but once again, reality fell far short of potential.

the most frustrating thing for me though is that yet another change from cold to mild is taking place without the slightest hint of a snowy breakdown.

For whatever reason, something that was the default setting of past winters is as rare as hens teeth these days and for someone who often remembered these rather than the cold that came before, it all adds to the blandness of winters these days.

Anyway it’s unlikely to happen this time around so it’s a couple of frosty nights followed by sunny days before milder temperatures arrive again.

I was thinking about this and in the last few years, it feels to me as though parts of Cumbria seem to constantly miss out. You have the Lake District, so the mountains gets snow when the set-up is not favourable for low levels. However when the snow parameters are favourable  for lowland areas, its then not favourable precipitation wise.

Temperature had markedly dropped in the last hour, it was about 3°C at 3am and now  it has dropped to -1.3°C and can see frost on roofs now

It's just stopped raining here. If it freezes now, it's going to be hellish with the slush and snow melt.

All good here mate, hope you are too.

Yes, I did see we kept missing them (or skirting the edge). I did notice they just went to our west a lot, never realised the difference it would be just in Nantwich!

In regards to last night, such a shame a night of thaw ensued.  So random that a warm/mild sector appeared to warm the temps up that much, especially overnight. I remember when we had a good fall of snow one November in the mid/late 90s, we had just come back from a school trip in Sheffield over the Pennines (we nearly got stuck in Buxton... but that's another story) got home and there was loads of snow. I remember thinking that I couldn't wait to get out in it the next day knowing that it was night time so shouldn't melt till the morning. Woke up and so much had gone. It wasn't a transition snow either, I remember that much as I recall being shocked that it could have melted so much overnight when in a 'cold' setup.  Must have been something similar to last night?
