At least astronomical summer looks like going out with some pleasant weather.

Hopefully it’ll stay freakishly warm until the 1st December where we have a 2010 redux and then spring can start on Jan 1st.

Odd perception. Who has said or alluded to wanting 38c or feeling that a summer season wouldn't be complete without it. All in your head imo.

Actual reality is - most people just don't like a solid 6-7 weeks of almost completely unbroken cloud, breeze and cool temps in summer, and with virtually every weekend throughout those 6-7 weeks being a washout.

Taking umbrage at the July and first half of August we had this year, doesn't equate to thinking it should be 38c.

A lot of people just before the heat haters thread started. People wanted somewhere to talk without such sentiments appearing.

Fine weather in the 20s is completely normal for September, I don't understand why people expect it to suddenly behave like mid-October as soon as August ends? For London, averages range from 22c in the first week, to 18c at the beginning of October.

September 2016 was warm but cloudy in London. 22.4/13.7c, 42mm rainfall and 135 sun hours.

September 2021 was another warm but dull month, though sunnier than August. September 2018 was the last good September, with almost 220 sun hours here. 2019, 2020 were also sunny.

September average max for Dover is 19, we are comfortablely above that already for now, high of 22 yesterday.

Folks - When are officially "shifting" over to the Autumn thread btw?

Seems to be some of us still in here, and some over there!

Is it not still meteorological summer atm?

You can mock all you like, but reality is, if  virtually every single one of your weekend plans throughout high summer are ruined (or severely hampered at best) by miserable, low pressure conditions, that's going to take precedence over data from a perspective of how 'good' or 'bad' the season was, and its not something you can just dismiss with a statistics map.

That's an over exaggeration, some weekends had some rain, most had dry periods where siting in a bear garden for a while would have been quite comfortable. People see low pressure and assume oh no it's going to be cold and rainy. Some weekends were total right offs up north, but not all even there.

Pretty sure that’s South London slang, especially among the black community. Seems to have become quite popular among the youth in general now though.

Yep I remembery kids picking it up, when we lived in Croydon. Then we moved and the slang is different here lol, but that's a good thing. Although this stuff is growing here too now.

Wonder if we'll get some awesome electrical storms after this spell? I remember that September a good few years ago where Leeds got treated to a spectacular night time electrical storm.

Not so sure, I'm a little bit older and while my childhood had some dodgy summers, I think the long stretch of good summers during my late teens, 20s and early 30s has made more of an impression on me than a few dodgy childhood summers. And even during the iffy early 80s period we had August 1981 and July 1982.

It's also possible that I subconsciously remember the summers of 1975 and 1976 (in those summers I was still pre-primary-school), even though I have little or no conscious memories of them. This could also play a part in "expecting" half-decent summers.

78-79 and 80 were stinkers though. And 81 wasn’t great either, apart from the August being warmish and sunny. There did seem to be a poor run of summers after 1976 until 1983.

Similar to the 2007-12 period, following the hot summer of 2006, then having to wait until 2013 before we had a reasonable summer again.

Not impressed.  Take 3 weeks off in June to go to France, missed the hottest June on record.  Back home for two months and welcomed by crud.  Now I'm in Amsterdam next week sat in a conference room all day and, of course, the heat returns.  I'm cursed! 🤣🤣

That’s just rotten bad luck. It probably feels like a cloud has followed you round every time you return to the U.K.

Lol I had a similar experience with wanting snow one winter when going to see my partners family in Latvia. It snowed for several weeks prior to our visit, then turned mild for our arrival during Christmas, and remained green for the whole Christmas into new year period. Although chilly, it was snowless. We flew back to London around the 3rd of January, and a week later the snow was falling yet again, while I was back in rainy mild London 🤣

Gassed and peng are used by people born after 1990.

I don’t know why people use it, but I just roll my eyes when someone says ‘I was so gassed’.

Another term I can’t stand is when they say ‘it’s so peak man’ lol.

It's one of those.  Today certainly felt like summer. Mid 70's f. I have a look at each thread. Is it summer ( may be until 21st September) or is it autumn (from 1st September). I don't care. What has happened is 24c sunny spells. Long may it continue.
