Anyone reckon we'll see Thursday's storm named today? I'm expecting a broad sweep yellow warning to drop down later this morning. It looks like we are going to see a direct hit from a powerful Atlantic storm, with the models showing central pressure ranging from about 948 to 955mb, approximately.

They'll probably hold off until tomorrow, I'd imagine. The track of the low isn't nailed-on enough yet, and I'm seeing hints in the models that it could actually end up diving a little further south and largely being a problem for France...but we'll see

Still 85-90mph gusts for the East Sussex coast on this morning's 03z UKV!

Storm Ciaran could cause a very 'severe threat' across Ireland bringing 'ten days of chaos'

I see it's not just the UK that has a problem with tabloid coverage. The journalistic style is shocking in this article, IMO. It's written intentionally to sound as scary as possible, ensuring the spiciest words and phrases are carefully selected for maximum worry.

I despise the mainstream media, particularly the tabloids. They should be held to account for all of the damage that they cause to society, but then of course they start whining about 'freedom of speech!'. I'm all for freedom of speech, but not freedom to intentionally and irresponsibly stoke up fear based on worst case scenarios, along with the usual lies and severe distortions of the truth.

Yep. Currently modelling shades of 1987 😬

Except it look like a normal type Strom, so should be no sting jet fingers crossed. No split between cold front and warm front in any charts I've seen anyway, but may be I've only seen later charts?

Just went outside to catch some rays as the sun popped out for a few minutes, rain was still lightly falling, looked to my east, nice rainbow, then a distant rumble, wouldn't have heard it indoors. Already coulded over again for the next bit, whichight be the storm perhaps, not sure which way the rumble came from.

Well, yellow warnings for rain has now been issued for what the Met is calling "Storm Ciarán". I thought they'd hold off at least another day before issuing warnings, but I could also see an amber rain warning issued for some areas in a few days; the current yellow warning is just one possibility matrix below an amber warning, so when the track is nailed more I could see this being issued.

We'll probably also see yellow wind warnings issued sometime tomorrow.

They have been, but for Thursday unless they've already been taken down, once likely hood increases, those are or were in the last impact column.

Oh I'm not sure, I just saw this warning be issued like an hour ago; I can't see any warnings that are in the highest impact column though.

EDIT:

Just seen the yellow wind warnings issued too, and yes they are in the highest impact column.

Yes I can confirm, was just leaving the range and heard something, I wasn't totally sure if it was thunder at first as I was in the car but I'm pretty sure it was

Some more bits, a couple from last night, the first one one from last night I'll probably try and brighten at some point and then some from today. I like the one through the window with rain, has a certain feel to it.
