I think you’ll be ok and fair better than us on the south coast

It must be doing some sort of interpolation though - I thought GFS only has 3-hourly? I think nullschool also brings in other data. I've tried to research it though and it does seem a bit opaque exactly how it works.

Now that I'm not sure of! It does say "GFS / NCEP / US National Weather Service" when you're in the wind overlay to be fair, not just GFS. But I had always assumed the actual wind map (rather than the over animations it can overlay) was GFS. The source code is available so maybe it would be possible to see exactly what it does.

Adding yet another Meteociel chart worth tracking - live wind gust obs.

91 km/h or 57mph the highest so far.

Given that uncertainty, I'm going to switch to using Meteociel for live obs tracking!

Oh heck yes we were driving home from Newquay last week in full daylight in worse driving conditions than that.

The wind in mid Cornwall has now dropped like a rock. Absolutely flat calm. I wonder if that bad lad is making better time than predicted, and he'll be here before the early hours?

Is it me, or is that beginning to develop a banded cloud head?

Don't know but my lamp post is already swaying in the gusts which seem to get slightly stronger in each cycle.

Latest Sat IR,

If you notice on the West/South West side of the centre, it looks like it is developing into fingers (banded cloud head) which is indicative and characteristic of sting jet formation. Not quite clear enough to call, yet - but worth keeping an eye on!

🤔

All the kids at son's school have also been acting even more peculiar than is customary too. Always here for peculiar but currently taking odd to new levels of odd.

That's quite extraordinary. Just looked up the tide times, and the high isn't until 1am if I'm looking at the right thing!

Doesn't look like they've bothered with any sandbags either

Is it, cause I think I'm seeing things in the east, thought it said 66 for here, having another look.

Are we saying that this storm could be worse than the one in Feb 2020?

I mean, that was WILD and I've never experienced wind like that before.

That’s not good at all, that would coincide with the storm tracking through that area at its strongest I think, it pains me to say that that sounds like a full on emergency with potential loss of life, surely they must be or are considering evacuation due to the height of the storm surge?

my thoughts go out to those poor people tonight

76km/h at Langdon Bay is the highest your way, unless I've missed one that's higher. The map is in km/h.
