I wonder if we will get a 3rd 200% rainfall month in a row, in the last few days of April?

Now up to 69.0mm for the month, ridiculous.

2024 will finish far wetter than average, calling it now. There is no realistic way we will only get another 300mm all year.

B87 Where do you find live stats for Heathrow?

As usual, 28th April is a day of zero sunshine once again, colour me shocked! One of the worst dates of the entire year, always reliably overcast.

SHOEBURYNESS- Top 5 worst dates in astronomical Spring & Summer! (March 20th to September 22nd)

5th worst- April 27th (3.98hrs)

4th worst- July 27th (3.38hrs)

3rd worst- March 28th (2.9hrs)

2nd worst- April 28th (2.93hrs- but will fall even lower after today so it will be worse than March 28th)

Worst- March 20th (2.57hrs- Spring equinox is always horrific for some reason!)

In contrast, the best 5!

5. June 15th (10.59hrs)

4. June 14th (10.78hrs)

3. June 16th (10.79hrs)

2. May 27th (10.84hrs)

1. June 22nd (11.28hrs)

I'm sure those top 5 will fall massively once this never ending grey grot pollutes those dates too lol.

2014 is the wettest year on record at Heathrow with 860mm, though there is a high chance that this year will overtake it.

An astonishing 305mm already, with 8 months of the year still to go. Those 8 months include the 1st, 2nd and 4th wettest months of the year on average.

Weekend has not been as poor as I was expecting either.  Yesterday (staying down south this weekend) was mainly overcast but the rain didn't arrive until late afternoon.  Evening and overnight saw lots of rain, but after a showery start today, this afternoon has been ok with some sun, but feels more chilly than yesterday.

Updated Metoffice outlook has dropped the possibility of a return to below average temperatures after next week and now going for average or slightly above.

After earlier deluges it’s actually quite sunny now in west London. But a poor 11°C

Wade What warm and sunny springs are those? 2020 is the only one that falls into this category.

2023 was neat as dire as this year has been (thus far)

2022 was simply a standard "mixed fare" UK spring - a combo of warm, sunny, cool, wet conditions from March to May.

2021 Spring was plagued by the woeful May, and largely poor March, saved only from a sunshine perspective by the sunny April (which was cold, just sunny).

Prior to that, well, we go further into just more "classic mixed bag" Springs with a variety of warmer spells, cooler spells, wetter spells and drier spells.

Tragic?....not really the right word i suspect

Oh it's exactly the right word, for anyone who enjoys sunnier and warmer conditions from March/April onwards.

Obviously for those who enjoy 10c and thick cloud year-round, it's joyful, not tragic.

In Absence of True Seasons It's hardly 10C and thick cloud all year round is it? Yes it hasn't exactly been Costa De Sol for a good portion of 2023 and most of this year but remember summer 2022 when it was clear skies and on two days we breached 40C for the first time? Without meaning to sound rude, you're maybe being a bit dramatic

Spring 2022 was very dry, all three months were drier than average 🤣 Not particularly warm but March was very sunny and had something like a six-day 20°C spell. April was quite average, and May was very warm if a bit humid. Overall it finished as the fifth-warmest for minima if I recall.

I don't know, we've had quite a lot of dry, warm and sunny spring this century and not many of the same autumns. We are definitely overdue some crap springs now, and decent, seasonal and frosty autumns. 2024 so far, 2023, 2016 and to some extent 2018, 2013 and by the looks of it, 2001 are the only ones that can be considered to genuinely be crap in this century.

One day; July 18th reached 38.2°C at Pitsford, Northamptonshire. Only the 19th reached 40°C in London, Pitsford, Gringley-on-the-Hill (Notts.) and Coningsby, Lincolnshire.

A bit disappointing that Pitsford didn't surpass Coningsby and set the record to be honest, considering Pitsford is somewhat of a spiritual successor to Raunds, which set the 1911 all-time record of 36.7°C.

CryoraptorA303 One day, two days that's immaterial, I am stating that the weather is variable as we all know and although it may seem certain weather patterns go on and on and on, they come to end eventually.

Wade I agree with your point, however I felt the need to point out we only reached 40°C for one day. Reaching 40°C for two days would be absolutely incredible, but not necessarily impossible with the same setup timed differently.
