Looks like a storm that we get maybe once or twice a year. Nasty yes, overly concerning probably not. Western Scotland is used a proper battering so 90mph there is the equivalent of 70-75mph in the south imo.

I disagree. Storms like this with inland gust's at this speed and this widespread are quite rare I think.

Oh I’d go with Arpege and Icon over the UKV.

The same ARPEGE that predicted this?

Well on that observation chart gusts of 55-60mph inland are pretty significant so the arpege was likely onto something even if it didn’t fully materialise. We can’t just discount it given how severe it could be, the stakes are very high and it is a definite possibility. What if this time the mechanisms responsible for the higher wind gust potential fully materialised but we shrugged off the possibility? It’s not safe to go off anecdotal evidence and past events / just the UKV when the impacts are this high. It could quite easily affect the central belt of Scotland this is a high concern.

Yep, the Arpege has cranked things up a little across the board.  Now showing widespread 70mph gusts across Southern England on Sunday night.

Then into the small hours there's a very strong swathe of winds into the Western Isles. 95mph may be entirely possible.

I'd hope this downgrades a little into the coming runs.

And yet somehow I'm not in a wind warning?!

I think there's a tendency for people to overestimate the wind speeds they've experienced.  For my location, it's extremely rare to see wind gusts in excess of 60mph, probably only a few times a decade.  In the 20 years I've lived here, I've only experienced 70 mph gusts on one occasion, which was the St Jude storm. So, this is notable for my location.

No its not Isha its just a windy day, she's still way off in the Atlantic

Fair enough , I was hoping you'd say that,  mind you it was very windy on thd south coast as I said, a old lady with walking frame  was blown sideways.  Her Son had to steady her .

Here's hoping people are sensible and stay safe tomorrow and Monday.

I get 80mph atleast twice a year, because I get those events which are limited to 1500ft+, so the forecast 80mph here is not as impactful as 65mph on low levels.

Not much can be done about Monday. Most of us are expected in school and work.

Agreed.  Inland 70mph+ is pretty rare the southern half of the UK.

Even storm Eunice which was billed as the strongest storm for 10 years only hit 69mph in London.

Nationwide amber alert for Ireland and a red marine warning for the NW. Probably upgrades to come. This looks lethal.

The rain warning is Wales and NW England. You have a wind warning out. If you click on the yellow warning for wind it covers the whole country

That's the Rain warning for Wales ...  go up to Scotland and hit the yellow warning for wind , expand the details .. covers the whole of the UK including the lovely Wiltshire

We were discussing the shortcomings of the MetO Warnings Graphic in the Wales Regional thread earlier

Its this yellow wind warning that covers the UK

I read it as just a rain warning for Cheshire, my area too.  I'm easily confused, or is it not clear.

The MetOffice warning maps are ridiculously confusing IMO, especially when there are several out at the same time covering different types of weather. Surely they could come up with something better given their importance?

I agree, very confusing.  I think an overview map is useful but you should be able to click on a county (or at least region) and get detailed information for that area.
