Looking good for a chase in NW England this pm with some decent cells appearing. Off to the car with the camera soon.

Becoming a little disillusioned by the beast to the south. Ignorant though I may be, but I cant hear any sferics on am radio, and there arent any paricularly substantial rainfall areas...Is it going to just be an annoying spot of rain instead of an epic storm?

The last time I picked up spanish radio on FM, was 1992, 1994. then there was major MCS activity overnight.

I think it has something to do with the radio waves being deflected by static in a major storm, or disturbance in the athosphere making the transmission go all weird.

But why would that happen today? There are currently no sferics over the whole of Western Europe.

I just "Googled" this and found a description of Sporadic E. It seems the jury is out on how it occurs, but one theory is a connection with thunderstorms .

Full description here

Hope this helps

Its called "skip".

Certain conditions compress or lengthen the radio waves, they can bounce the radio waves along between air layers and up to the ionosphere, trapping it and then releasing the wave back to ground later than it usual would, this is usually associated with thunderstorms or thunderstorm type conditions.

You dont always get two way skip, eg, on CB a two way conversation, though it can sometimes happen.

Not for here. Very cloudy now. And temp at 22c. I've lost all hope unless the cloud clears.

So I see. Was getting a little worried there. Hope it picks up enough to make it a worthwhile opening to this years storm season. Only a few lightning strikes, but hopefully itll pick up

Hi Darkman,

Looks to be pepping up quite nicely on the rainfall radar atm, with some good reds appearing

looks pretty good for lincolnshire for some heavy precipitation too.

Just had a minute shower, infact I have seen heavier showers from a watering can.

TCu's about towards Much Wenlock, and a couple over head. Still fairly muggy, but it feels slightly cooler from this morning.

Looks like stuff kicking off over Lincs.

Yes looks ok for linconshire Potty, shame TRL isn't around to give us a report.

I wish some of those storms would come accross my way. It is beggining to get extremely frustrating

the lack of weather for my area :wallbash:

Heavy showers kicking off in a line just a few miles NW, W & SW of Westbury after a warm and sunny morning. So, as I'm watching the sky slowly become ominous and wonder if it'll give thunder, what happens? Extra noise ; there are military jets flying around and a neighbour drilling noisily outside.

There is not a breath of wind.

Edit ; yes there is wind, quick gusts heralded a downpour a minute after that last post.

Looks exciting in Lincolnshire.

Looks like theres some rain with some heavier bursts heading across into Co. Durham and Yorkshire. Any chance of it turning thundery?

I know storm conditions are not great up here but I saw a forecast on text yesterday which said thundery rain for Northern England today.

Unfortunately still nothing in Derby. :wallbash:

Cells seem to be moving NEwards - although cells to my north have more of an easterly component than those to my SW. There is just the chance that the cell over Telford may get here but more likely to hit Stoke on Trent and then head up into Leek and the Peak District.
