yea Ok in my area now I think but I havent been out but realy concerned no water here soon...my brothers tap low pressure....been told to boil the last water soon....

could have no water for up to 3 days to week....panic buying in shops for water..grim without water and theres so much around

ps no rain here now

Ive heard Boats are been used in the center of glos dont know if thats correct

The only advice I can give you is to fill all the suitable water vessels you have now, and boil all the water you collect for at least 5 minutes from the point at which it begins to boil. Or drink beer! :o

I don't know how the Gloucestershire Civil Protection Unit works, but if water supplies are affected for that length of time, then some alternative provision will be available.

Keeping my fingers crossed for you.

Anyone know why the River Wye hasn't really had severe flooding as both the Severn and the Wye start in the same place...

I suppsoe it all depends on where the water runs off to.

maybe the worst hit areas run into the severn more than the wye... ? Tbh tho, the rivers are still not peaking. So it could get worse for both ..

Its quite bad in gloucester, chelt, tewks.. the water supply is about to be turned off because of flooding. they say it could be off till wednesday. they are trying to get water bowsers out now.

They're just saying how you'd have to go back to '63 or '87 for such a widespread and devastating event. Also that this has happened before: http://weldgen.tripod.com/the-great-flood-1968/

Just noticed this on the MetO site, quite interesting,

The top two rainfall figures from Friday 20th July 2007: 1) Pershore, College of Agriculture, Worcestershire, 142.6mm 2) Brize Norton, Oxfordshire, 126.2mm, this being the largest daily rainfall recorded at Brize Norton since records began in 1968. The previous daily maximum was 70.9mm recorded in July 1968. The maximum daily rainfall ever recorded in the UK was at Martinstown, near Dorchester, Dorset, where 279mm was recorded on 18 July 1955.

Its in the Weather Report section that appears on various pages across the site.

279mm of rain, or, in old money, 11 inches!

All of the highest rainfall/24hrs records are set in July too.

Another load of rain has fell here today and is still falling. When all this water makes its way out of the mountains the Severn and Dee are going flood even more. Places like Chester and Shrewsbury need to act now.

Your shield is starting to make mine look weak.

How many thundery showers\storms have you had over you this year?

No storms in the strict sense as they've goen round me. Thundery Showers about five and all very short lived.

Anyway the Showers are now just coming over the moors.

I count a 'storm' as any cell exceeding that of 20 minutes rainfall and containing at least a few strikes of lightning and associated heavy rain. This can include single pulse storms as well as bowing squall lines or MCS clusters.

It`s warmer here now and was sunny but there`s lots of Tcu`s shooting up south/SW into a CB as they`ve changed direction to a more S-ly direction it could turn thundery so more heavy showers to come this way wow!!!

I'm fine thanks mate. :)

Yes there looks to be a fair amount of showers waiting for us to the South west on the

radar.

Why can't we just have at least two consecutive days of dry weather atm.

Shrewsburys prepared... all riverside car parks closed, riverside defences are all up... river now 2.8 meters above normal, but still a way off being critical for this flood prone town...

i live by the river and we get "local alerts" sent to out phone if its going to get really bad.. had one last night but nothing today... yet..

Local predictions have the river peaking at 3.1 - 3.5 today late evening..

be intresting to see if the local prediction next update revises this upwards...
