Oh, so it does GobbyAsh :o

Hope it reaches me that bit nearer the coast this time !

Looks just short on the BBC Beta maps.

Still just nasty cold rain here this morning.

All my family back in Northants are snowed in !

BL :)

I can believe that we have nearly 6 inches here on the northern outskirts of Northampton, whereabouts are your family ?

Lorries and cars abandoned are causing havoc

I've just driven over the southern Lincolnshire Wolds from Louth to Lincoln and a 45 minute journey has taken 2 and a half hours - started snowing in Louth around 7:30 this morning and has already put down several inches of snow, with it still continuing thick and heavy here in Lincolnshire. John Kettley on the local radio station has suggested that it'll remain as snow across the county until mid-day when it gradually turn to sleet or rain across the south and east of the county thereafter but is likely to snow across the western half of the county all day - also said there are likely to be frequent and heavy snow showers in the eastern half of Lincs tomorrow. Got to say I'm pleasantly surprised by the amount of snow - far exceeds Mondays event especially across the Wolds, where there's between 5 and 8cm and the roads are now getting towards being impassable - especially the A153, A157, and A16 for those who know the area.

The wife has just called to say they are closing the kids school even though it has turned to rain on the coast!!! However, still snowing at Manby! Snowball fight at Lunch seems to be on the cards.

Hi Beverley Lass

Have played cricket in all of those places. Corby quite often cops for a fair amount of Snow and Little Harrowden being out in the sticks will be difficult to get out of same for Desborough with hills all around

More snow to come as well

Just measured outside, we have had 4.5cm fall today, there is 10cm lying on the grass, in some places its drifting up to 15cm possibly 20cm against the wall :) Not bad :)

Just been looking, seems theres the possibility of even more snow!

Tonight: Could see some more snow before it Finally clears

Saturday night: Some snow showers according the the GFS

Sunday night into Monday: More heavy snow possible

Oh, I lived right beside Corby cricket / sports ground for over 25 years ..

Yes, I can recall playing in loads of snowdrifts in my youth ;-)

The most dramatic snowfall I remember was back around 1982 ish,

I was meant to be on an archaeology dig out at Oundle.

Woke up in Corby to an 'unexpected' overnight 8" of snow .

Wish I knew the precise date.

Anyway, I digress from today's excitement .. cos I just have rain here *weeps.

BL

I'll post some photographs of our 'drive' across the wolds this morning later on - it's still snowing hard over the tops of the hills at the moment and the A157 is now impassible, so the trip back might be even more picturesque.

I dont believe this, once again we miss out.

Currently raining at 1.8C. We had some wet sleet/snow earlier but nothing settled.

Another major disappointment. Just what will it take this winter to get something here.

Hi Barbs!

In the region of 6-8 inches in Rushden. 8 inches where its laid on the top of stuff that hasn't melted from Monday. Certainly the heaviest snowfall i've seen in the good 10 years i've lived down in this neck of the woods. It is thawing a tad now mind as the temperature here stands at 0.6C - but I'm pretty sure it will last the day! Needless to say I have decided to work from home!

Hello everyone. Not posted on here in a long time but I have kept on reading the forums and just had to come on to say that today has provided me with the best snowfall I can remember for at least the last decade. I went for a walk earlier and it was reminiscent of winters of old with between 8-10cm of snow on the ground and snow still falling.

Snow has stopped now but I am hoping for some more before the day is out.

A day off work today aswell... woohoo!!!

It's stopped in Lincoln now too and a slow but definate thaw is underway. Still a pretty impressive event though.

One of the interesting things is that Precip intensity clearly played a part as to who got rain and sleet and who got snow, as well as timing - Boston, I understand got a fair bit of snow, despite it's coastal location as it started before sunrise and was quite heavy by sun-up keeping temperatures low - if the main band didn't arrive until night-time temperatures rose a bit, then it seems like sleet or rain - Hence Louth got heavy snow when I was, to be honest fully expecting sleet at best.
