In my child like anticipation for the upcoming cold spell in fi,i got myself a sledge today as im now prob too old to be using bin liners for my snow fueled fun. Almost certainly put the kiss of death on this winter lol.

In all seriousness, looking through the chart archives I can't find a cold pool as deep as this over the north western continent so early in winter [;attachment=89688:Rtavn1442.png]

OP

Try this one from the famous December of 1981

Yep TWS they are good examples...December 78' is a little bit of a cheat though as it stands on the last day....just!

The other lot are close with 13th December 78 and Christmas 2002 being closest. But I think or current projected snap comes in second on that list.

I've just had a major ramp at work again, I couldn't help it, I really should know better.

I sooo hope this doesn't go belly up.

OK so confidence is high for a easterly and snow as early as next week for some its going to be a epic winter and i cant wait i just hope i catch some of it where i am but even the excitement and anticipation will bring lots of joy around the forums and of course there will be those without snow but it will be fun

and even better news we are just at the start of winter :whistling:

The model runs just keep on getting better and better and better! Listen to this, Global Warming 1 - Big Freeze 2009 5! Pinch yourself please :yahoo:

I think my sanity will definitely be questionable if this cold spell doesn't materialise now ...

Out of interest, where can you buy sledges?

www.splashandrelax.co.uk/Sledges+Toboggans or www.amazon.co.uk for instance (other online and high street stores are available)

Decent enough run

Understatement of the year there!!

The charts at 192 onwards are stunning - enough to bring a tear to the eye of the perpetually disappointed snow lover!!

My own confidence is growing with regard to this coming cold freezing spell, but I will be a lot happier if UKMO gets back on board later.

indeed this would but its always good to stay on the fence but cold is nearly apon us now,

and now its the 24 to 48 hrs to see whether were be lucky to get some white stuff.

being on the southcoast is not always the best pace to be.

but in the 80s heavy snow from the south was always a favourate of mine,

and when looking at temps id always look at olso moscow and paris.

but long gone are those days but this is truely exciting times not just for this event but for winter09/10 overall.

ecm gfs are really exciting and certainly the ones to watch.

the charts are that good TWO has crashed . cant get on that site at the mo . by the way does that ukmo144 chart silence the doubters from this morning ????

Out of interest, where can you buy sledges? I've just been in a large Smyths Toy Shop and they didn't stock them?

Does anyone know who are the major manufacturers of sledges? Think it's time to buy some shares!! :D

Oh and just out of curiosity, any ideas how many days of subzero temps does it take to freeze over the thames?
