Now this is a whiteout

If that happened somewhere in this country people would be going nuts.

Snow shower in Northampton. It's not settling, so far, thankfully. I'm one of the apparent few who doesn't like the frozen form of water!

In which case this thread might not be for you! :D

Stopped here, for now. The radar shows more on the way.

A couple of heavy flurries of snow so far in Moulton, Northants. Showers are fairly racing through now although most of them are just giving a glancing blow. So much for the doommongers from last night. I think this evening could get very interesting.

now thats just extreme! you'd be crying if you were out in that, given the area is used to experiencing extreme windchill aswell.

Thanks for showing that. I have been in a few whiteouts in the mountains and there are as scary as it gets. In a true whiteout there is no discernible horizon, no points of reference it is literally like looking at a white wall with gales force winds. All you can do is sit down and dig in and waits until it passes. I still chase blizzards.

Huge cluster on the way for northants.

That huge blob to the south of northants must have given Milton keynes and the bedford area a covering.

Hail has ceased up now which is good, just falling as snow. Quite a good dusting - it's exceded my expectations thus far today, here's hoping it continues.

Will Northampton just miss out on any significant snow , from forecast it looks borderline?

Re: azores92's comment on tonight's potential. I have to say we may not get anything at all, but all it takes is a heavy snow shower and it could dump 1-2" within minutes. It is looking marginal though.

i am keeping an open mind for this evening, as richard angwin supposedly said it could still move further west, so its still early days to be calling it yet. its too early to say for certain if we will remain snow free, but we arent in the favoured area. you are more favoured than me being a few miles further east.

I have to agree that it does look borderline, but have learnt that very odd things usually do happen in these scenario's it does need much of a last minute change of wind direction to paint a completely different picture. Here's hoping.

My fear is that's going to be the story of the evening! But at the moment I'm trying to remain positive. It's very borderline but these things never happen exactly as forecast and I wouldn't be surprised if the main risk ends up a little further west to include Northants.

Those huge blobs of snow shower to the east of Northampton now seem to be fragmenting.

A clear corridor has also opened up for NN3, all showers going east or west

According to the weather forecast WE are 20 so miles away from the main area of snow tonight.

i think we will get some out of that.

Keeping my eye on the cluster coming down from south Lincs.

Should be on course to hit us looking at the wind direction.

Showers that size are only lasting about 5mins and not amounting to anything. We need some showers to merge together to give alonger period of snow for anything to settle.

True. But the main risk for the region is going to be around 1700-0500.

These flurries we are experiencing at the moment are hopefully just a starter.
