Think radar is missing precip as it's literally starting out of nothing almost... must be snowing over a very large area. Really coming down heavy here now - and no wind. It's going nowhere fast!

Indeed, it's really surprising how much snow just randomly appeared in the last 90 mins...

In my part of Banbury currently 2cm on the ground and light snow at present, but this could change any moment judging by the radar.

Was in Solihull today, and we had 2 inches this morning, and was starting to snow heavy again when I left this afternoon.

Banbury needs to have more snow to reach the 40cm that is forecast! :drunk:

Oxfordshire, W.Berkshire, Hampshire Weather Warning from Metoffice

Very Heavy Snowfall 2000 Tue 5 1100 Wed 6

There is a high risk of an extreme weather event affecting parts of Southern England this evening and overnight. A period of exceptionally heavy snowfall is expected with accumulations of 15-30 cm and perhaps in excess of 40 cm. This is expected to cause widespread disruption to the transport network and could lead to problems with power supplies.

Theres been a couple of reports in the area of people saying its looking a little sleety or it looks like rain. I didn't think this was a marginal event here?

Anyway, snowing quiyte heavily now...though it has to be said, the main road through Wordsley is actually running better than normal for half past 5!

The Northern side is weakening to nothing, and the second pulse coming up from the South won't reach Staffs or Shrops, I would think Northern limit a line from South Lincs to Ludlow.

Thanks for all the posts about the nature of the low Ian, very informative. Now do you know why the band coming from the north this morning broke up over Shropshire, then reformed in the Birmingham/Kidderminster/Dudley areas, as there's no high ground to the north between here and Manchester?

Shrewsbury STILL not snowing- had a few wet flakes about an hour ago but just misty and dank.....
