That is simply insane, tell you what I would get a lot of rain in Chichester BUT I'd love to see that run comes off just to see something exceptional...I think to be honest that would even kick the 5-6th Jan event into touch if that 18z came off...insane!!!

As I said in the model thread, IF the 18z was right you'd be looking at 40-60cms quite widely...utterly...mental!

And probably a snowy outlier as well to boot!

Was that a ramp there KW? And you don't even live in the Midlands :) Fantastic, this better come off now, I could do with an extended half term.

I've seen this before... Precip intensity can be overdone and / or the LP center, along with the associated mild sector, shunted northerwards. Hard not to be excited because the GFS 18Z is a snowfest for some, but northward movement could scupper things. It's precariously poised at this early stage and massive changes can still take place.

This is what the Met Office warnings map will look for every day next week:

Shouldnt that be the Take action red or is it so severe that even the warnings themselves blanketed in snow thus making them white? :p

Well, I was originally going to make them red, but unfortunately everytime I tried to colour them red Paint decided to do it grey instead. But I changed it to it being so snowy that you could see the snow on the warning maps...

I'm probably an intruder into these parts of the world but if the charts verify you folks have a massive snowfest ahead of you!!! Way to go and hope the charts do verify for you all :p

The snow's that bad that there is not a single functioning observation station left in the midlands. They're all buried. laugh.gif

A great headline would be this:

Midlands hit by 1 foot and a half of snowfall.... SNOWMAGGEADON IN LONDON, CHOAS and DAYS OF DISRUPTION AFTER ONE INCH OF SNOWFALL!!!!!!!

Absolutely EXTRAORDINARY 18z. Seriously, this could be an epic week for snow, not just for 2010 but by any standard. We're talking very high up on the severity scale.

If the 18z is even remotely close to the actual outcome then there's going to be a lot of happy snow fans in this region come next week! :D

If GFS 18z comes off maybe a new thread will have to be started this summer for "Snow patches surviving on Midland hills", let alone the traditional Scottish mountains one..... 10 foot drifts anyone?! (Already got 1ft drifts here on Beacon Hill, another 9ft to go lol)

That's my ramp anyway. I know in reality by midweek there will be the familiar sound of rain lashing against the window......

The showers to the west are dying out as thought. Somewhere like Hereford or even Worcester might see a little light snow in the next couple of hours. Closest we've come all day though.

As for tonight's model output...in the same way that last weekend I said that i can't believe a snow event won't happen until i see the output the night before, even though the output wasn't that good...i'd better stay consistent and say the same but for the other way around.

Keeping my feet on the ground for now...(while i can see the ground!)

Ok time to bring this thread down a peg or two, the GFS ensebles are NOT even close to suggesting what the 18z op run suggests, indeed many many runs give you guys rain, and a lot take this low well NW of where both the ECM and the GFS 18z has it, in fact they are overall possibly even worse then the 12z UKMO.

Hopefully the 0z sees both the UKMO/Ens come on board with the snowier evolution suggested by the GFS/ECM.

Thank you Darren, the voice of sanity....the vast majority of these snow events are T+96 onwards...Pure FI....Still, makes for plenty of midland snowgasms!!

Hey peeps, well I am back home in Leicester now. I arrived back at 4pm to be greeted by a blizzard like snow shower :D

I took some pics on the way back from South Wales on the coach, I took a pic of the snow in Tredegar and also near Hereford and I took a picture of the 50p size snowflake shower when I got home.

There was around 2 inches in Tredegar and 3-5 inches in the hills around Hereford. Only snow on the grass in Leicester when I got home, that heavy shower settled even on wet ground though because it was intense.
