Looks like we've escaped the warnings again though doesn't it?

It does indeed. As I understand it, the warning system is based upon the potential frequency or extent of an event within a certain area, providing the event meets or exceeds certain criteria (windspeed, intensity of rainfall etc). Thus I think that although the charts are showing the potential for a severe, perhaps quasi tornadic event, such a storm would affect a small area. Not entirely a satisfactory system perhaps. I know from experience in other countries, where presumably the popluation are more empirical, a percentage system is used to state to people that they have today a '10% chance' of catching a severe thunderstorm and all that brings with it. Perhaps it is thought that here this translates to people understanding that you have a 100% chance of catching 10% of a severe thunderstorm?

Its getting windy here now, is it by any chance going to be as bad as yesterday morning as there is a roof tile loose. On the snow point I was reading the Forecasting section, things didnt look too optimistic over there about any snow, who knows, could surprise us!

Got this song on the brain, so made up my own little ditty:

Rollin' Rollin' Rollin'

Keep those models, movin',

Though we’re disapprovin',

Keep them patterns movin' Rawhide!

We try to understand 'em,

But the signs keep disappearin’,

And the vortex just ain’t splittin’

It’s doing my bleedin’ head in

I’ll get another lot of pills in, for the rollercoaster ride.

Get me John, Get me Nick,

Get me Blast, Damn quick,

Get me TEITS, Get me Steve, Rawhide!

Get me Kold, Get me Phil

Get me Jack, I’m feeling ill,

Stevie P, Blue Army, Rawhide.

Rollin', rollin', rollin'

Rollin', rollin', rollin'

Rollin', rollin', rollin'

Rawhide!

Rollin', rollin', rollin'

Keep those models rollin’

The GFS is trollin’, Rawhide!

Rain and wind and weather

No snow for flippin’ ever

Not worth really stayin’ alive

The Aleutian Ridge’s gone missin',

This run just needs dismissin',

Won’t be long before the summer arrives.

Hi,

It was great fun as always thanks - you should try it sometime..MKLightning are 2nd in the English Premier League at the moment !

check them out here..... http://www.mk-lightning.com/

I've never been to Basketball here in MK - are the Lions any good ?

It's starting to get a bit blowy here already, I wasn't expecting much change this side of the midnight hour but in the last 3 hours the temperature is up I°C and the wind speed is increasing with gusts reaching 20mph already...

....I don't hold out much hope for what is left of my neighbours fence panels tonight

ice hockey

Loved it,went every week, and on the road had some great trips.

I think just before we stopped going when we had our first child, they rearranged all the leagues and the stadium had to have a bigger seating capacity to go into premier?

Scotland and lakes so beautiful in the winter.

Same here..Thunder are MK's division 1 team so I guess the Chieftains will be playing against them sometime this season !

I was surprised Cardiff and Slough were not in the Premier division anymore, I remember them as strong teams with good players, maybe it was down to seating capacity then !

I'm off to bed now to try and get some Zzzzs before the wind wakes me up at oh let me guess.....about 3am again - Doh !

Night folks :lazy:

I think we should have had a weather warning from the m/o here.

That wind is seriously frightning now!!

and there's plenty more to come, especially in eastern parts of England during the overnight period....Here at the other end of the region, the winds are very strong, gusting in excess of gale force with no signs of diminishing

I think they just forget about the Midlands, after all we missed out all last winter and every warning that's issued always skirts around the region.

We are just somewhere that southerners go to on their way to the lake district or wales or somewhere, there can't be actual cities and things in the middle bit of the island can there?

Fear not, I ordered the ECM/GFS and all other model outputs on fear of death to show more favourable winter synoptics for you CH...anything to cheer you up from your apparent depths of despair these past few weeks, and the good news is that I believe the ECM at least has taken my threats seriously, at least the 12z run has! :winky:

Wind easily the strongest in 4 or 5 years here, a constant 40mph, gusting 62mph. Just driven back from the pub, a number of large branches down, and the tarmac is hardly visible due to twigs and leaves. A really wild night here in Suffolk......and it seems to be getting stronger!

Yes it's windier than yesterday. Wind 20 to 30mph with gusts up to 40mph now.

You guys sure about your wind speeds?, the figures a few of you are talking about are 10 to 20mph higher than anything predicted on the MetO for our more inland areas. I'm only seeing gusts aproaching 60mph in the coastal regions.

The front has fragmented on its journey south, could be some local very strong gusts if any convection gets going, max here so far 41.8mph but that is from only 15ft above the ground in the garden...
