Just noticed that as well, drifting snow could be an issue on the higher routes, which isn't

mentioned in the warnings.

How is everyone's temperature / dew point doing? Not that that seems to matter too much bearing in mind the NW has much lower temps and dps than Scotland, but parts of Scotland are getting snow with rain in the NW.

Quite amazing GFS ensembles this morning - huge scatter by +36 so model watching is totally pointless.

Its still -1.7C here with windchill of -9C.

On wunderground places like Redcar and Teesside are already +1.5 or more so looks like wet snow/sleet there.

1.2C at Cleadon but the dew point is still well below zero, so presumably at the current "state of play" evaporative cooling would result in snow. I think we could well have a good 2-3 hours of snow this afternoon but am hoping that the milder sector at around 9pm doesn't bring much precipitation with it- otherwise we could be left with little to show for it other than patches of solid ice. If the main precipitation belt does precede the milder air then there could be a couple of inches of proper snow.

Seems to be arriving some 2 or 3 hours earlier than forecast... or is that a secondary band prior to the main band? Whichever of the 2, ppn wasn't forecast so early. ANy thoughts TWS?

Interesting snippet from that cold weather alert thing on the met website:

North East England 100% Snow during Saturday will clear into the evening to leave a cold night with icy conditions quickly developing. Minimum temperatures tonight are expected to fall to around minus 4 Celsius in places. Into next week mean temperatures are expected to remain below 2 Celsius.

Your brain is working at full capacity!

We are indeed in the "orange zone" now.
