it doesnt help that the new radar colours look heavier than they actually are....

I think its all down to staring intently at our lamp posts and willing it to snow after dark!!!

   Yamkin even for you this is baffling

Croydon has not been re-located in the last hour up the M40 ?

I don't buy into the idea that today the precip is evaporating due to the Dp's only being around -2 to -3c. I think it is a radar error, but the band is now starting to swing SSW, London West and Western parts of the Northern Home Counties still favoured for a few centimetres.

how can the radar be so wrong???

Yamkin, sorry mate but I really don't buy that. I don't want to sound rude but you can be very mis-leading sometimes! Heavy snow...any mention of depths at all? For how long? From when?

how can the radar be so wrong???

They are sensitive things, and they do go wrong more especially when pressure is high.

When we Storm Chase in May and have a target in Central Kansas every day at around 4-5pm we notice a big red radar blip over Dodge City which expands to look like a big Supercell developing, it is just the Wind Farm there which creates this false echo when the wind is in a certain direction, Steve Landsell (stevestorms on here) got suckered in a few years ago, watched his spotter icon moving towards there and in reality not a cloud in sight, there is also a false echo in the Texas Panhandle from 2 Radio masts between Lubbock and Amarillo which send up a 60,000ft Top (Again false radio waves) and then there are the bats down near Abilene in Texas again daily as they swoop out of the caves at around 6-7pm.

So yes the radar is a very sensitive thing and can go wrong quite frequently

whats the score with the MET O radar- everything a long way east with the frontal zone-minimal westerly curve

Looks good for us now...

S

Thing is Steve, a lot of people in Suffolk and Essex reporting bone dry conditions. Radar error?

I thought this "snow" was supposed to be worst in Midlands then coming down here with a now swing to east....just checked radar and latest Ob's on Meto site and everything is falling as rain at the mo - was that forecast? Maybe changing to snow later when temps drop at nite?! Does look v eastward bound too?!

I've not been v well so haven't read thru pages on this or MOD thread so is what I've said above what has been recently forecast or is it just completely different?!

Funny that I have been thinking the same for hours but not going to get too excited just yet. Glad you noticed it too.

Different radar, looks different from the other Radars also showing Sleet band across Suffolk

http://winter.buienr...neeuwradar.aspx

That sleet band is an obvious error.
