A very intense line of echoes complete with sferics is crossing parts of the New Forest area right now. I believe that is travelling mainly due Northwards into East Wiltshire. Salisbury, Amesbury and Devizes once again could well be in the firing line if it maintains its intensiy. I'm in a dry slot currently but hopefully there is much more to come yet.

Temperature is rising, as is the humidity.

18.8c AT, 18.2c DP with rapidly falling barometer tendency.

Forcing from the theta-plume behind the cold-front, aswell as mid-level convection will be the triggers today. pre-frontal heating has all but dematerialised here giving some tasty CAPE this morning but from now on we have to look outside of this. going to be a interesting few hours ahead.

Quite grey here but very muggy even after the downpours we have had. Just steady drizzle now though.

I thnk there is a chance however it has probably already got too cool in this area for the development of such events. It is actually a quite Autumnal type day. Very dull and the sky appears to be stratified even with the approaching cold front?

hardly 'autumnal' I would venture to suggest Stephen based on the T and Td values scattered around you, E-W-S-N?

i flew back to east midlands today, twas very bumpy indeed and we had 80+mph tail winds on the way back so if its similar you may have a longer than planned flight!

Is that it!? Flying back from DFW last year our G/S going through the jet was around 1,300mph!

Not much going on around here at the moment, just intermittent rain, hopefully something later. I'm off out to sunny Walsall Wood today to visit a friend, but will post more on the Blackberry if anything happens. Fingers crossed smile.png

wacko.png ..what were you flying back on, the space shuttle?!!...1300 mph would infer a jet stream velocity of 700 mph, surely impossible! definitely sperious ground speed measurement!

back on topic.....showery rain here, the main batch is slowly pushing towards here

Muggy but only light rain here. Are any storms supposed to be before or after the warm and cold front today?

They seem to be firing along the cold front in the warm sector at the moment. I think that trend will continue as the cold front pushes north!!!!

Within the black circle, there are currently thunderstorms.

Within the brown circle are further developments behind the front which is what I think could provide the interesting sypnotics we all want.

In front of the Thunderstorms ( black circle ) is where the really humid, moist air is getting "sucked" into the mix. Its what happens when the thunderstorms we have now travel further north and meet more of the humid, moist air that is the interesting part.

This from Ian Fergusson:

Rain clearance will be later than previously billed due to further developments frm S currently moving N.

That suggests to me the Meto didn't expect these further developments. Therefore that could be why they didn't forecast ( or forecast littlee in the way of ) thundery activity.

This from Matt Hugo:

Storms seem to delineate the W boundary of 18C WBPT plume as it extends N & NE... could get v lively...

Is this what UKASF, Estofex & Met Monkey have released warnings for? Lets wait and see.....................

I did think that at the time - maybe there was an error on the system. It was extremely turbulent. I definitely remember it showing 1000+ mph groundspeed.
